Then it works like any other game where you just press ~ to bring down console. that control alt stuff makes me pissed at ID because they are the ones that pretty much invented the standard ~ to use console to begin with.

and yes. the cheats work on pretty much every ID game they make.
god
give all
give ammo
noclip
etc.

i only used 'god' once for 10 seconds because i had made it really really far and i was about to die. I forgot to save, and i didnt want to have to do the whole thing over again, so i put it in and killed the enemy and saved.

it was like on the first level or 2 anyway. never used it again cuz i learned to save every 5min. lol

Ok I have to admit I used cheats a few times ... like "god' or "give all"

I have been using Linux so much in last while that when I first tried to run DOOM 3 I had to update the drivers for my Ati 9800 Pro on WinXP Pro as the game was locking and crashing.

You're having troubles with the difficulty? I flew through it on the difficulty before nightmare. Now I'm about half way done with the game on Nightmare. Plasma gun works good on the hell knights. machine guy on the mermaid things.

Oh my god.. it's YODA.. yay.... anyways.. Yeah I went over to hero2's house and he showed me how to defeat the hellknights that I was stuck on

I'm having a similar experience. It isn't that hard. As for the enemies that hit you with the big blue/green stuff (the "bfg stuff" I think) - try staying away from them. Then when they shoot that at you dodge to the side and move forward (yes TOWARDS the creature). That way you'll avoid splash damage as well.
