I personally don't use acronyms often. When I do it's only for something that I would actually say in real life. Who actually says "Laughing out Loud?"

I use the abbreviation 'LOL' among others to convey a false sense of amusement to my reader. It also allows me to respond without putting any thought into a conversation. I can simply 'LOL my way' through a conversation consisting of one or more other people. This is especially useful when you're doing other things on the computer like listening to music, or talking with people whom you consider more important.

I hate anybody who degrades the English language on the Internet. Using the above shorthands and changing "you" to "u" and "thanks" to "thx" really don't sit well with me either.

As I see it, your power over minor grammatical rules dictates how much of an intelligence rating you get from me.

I hate ppl who abbv. evrything. It makes no sense to me y they do it. Its like savng seconds of there day means so much to them they cut corners and make thmslvs look relly relly lame. Ppl need to lern how to spell, becuz it can get super annoying to keep readin sommin some1 rites, and u cant tell wut they mean by it.


EDIT: and if the internet really pisses you off, just stop using it. There was this guy I know that pissed me off, so i stopped going to his house every Friday...Kidding, kidding.

The bottom line is, if something makes you mad, stop going to the source. Not the music awards, the thing that makes you mad. Its like, you know rolling in toxic waste will give you lymphoma and piss you off, but you do it anyways to pass the time, and because everyone else is doing it.

So if it makes you mad, stop using it, and i assure you, you will be happier.

my biggest problem is using the three periods...

i do that way too much. i do use WTF and lol a bunch on aim, but not too much on message boards. to me, it seems like a cool dialect of english. it is more efficient, and you can certainly understand just as easily. personally, i think it's cool, but i know kids are growing up using this crap, and pretty soon brain power will be at a minimum. oh well.

I use lol sometimes in city of heroes when in a group but on AIM I usually use heh most of the time.

and I dont mind if they aren't laughing. Its more of a "that was funny" thing now. If you do something like LOL or rofl/lmao, then your laughing. lol is generic now

I noticed how you abbreviated abbreviate..and I hate when people do that as well. I do use some of the acronyms, but I hate a lot of them. The only one I use at the moment is "lol" because it's such a habit. I have been using haha more often though. I never use "gtg" unless I have to go REALLY fast. I say "I have to go" or "I'll see you later". It really annoys me as well when I see people using u, thx, cuz, etc..It's just...extremely wrong, and annoying. You can imagine what they'd sound like when they say those words abbreviated. They're all extremely stupid.

Well, I would be lying if I said I had any problem with much shorthand, as anyone who speaks to me on AIM know, I pretty much use it all the time. The most popular of which is replacing "th" with "d", and some others I use. I mean as long as it is understandable, I see no problem with it. Not to say I'm for everything someone says online, but who am I to complain?

And no, I'm usually not 'laughing out loud' when I say lol, but if I find something extremely funny and I really am laughing I will either use LOL in all caps or say "rofl", because that seems more powerful then a small "lol". I use "lol" when someone says a joke or something intended to be humorous, even if it's not knee slapping funny. Plus, it helps keep the conversation going. "lol" is like smiling or chuckling on the internet. you could use a '' smilie, but lol works in the same way.

And the other short hand terms are just useful.

But, I do not shorten every word, and I dont use most of that stupid internet lingo. I absolutely HATE it when people spell "cool" "kewl". What is the damn purpose of doing that? I also hate it when people type with no regard to grammar, and their sentances look like this "What do u want 2 do 2day? Thx a lot!"

I was actually talking to someone on MSN a while back, and they asked me why I talked in full sentances and spelt everything out. I simply replied "I dont like to look like a jack ass. It's not that hard, and it's easier to read."

But seriously...I dislike the acronyms and abbreviations big time. It just seems foolish to me. I wouldn't respect myself if I started typing like that.
