While I rarely ever see eye to eye with Gekko, I now have a polar-opposite opinion with him! This is a new level of disagreement now!
Gekko, your HD-DVD idea is great.... IN FIVE YEARS! Let's be realistic for a moment though; this N5/Project Revolution is already pretty far into development, and HD-DVD's have three big issues right now:
1. People just upgraded their VCR's to DVD Players/PVR's/DVD Writers, the average person isn't going to want to upgrade their A/V Equipment, AGAIN just a few years after the last upgrade, this is a major con for HD-DVD's -- early adopters may jump on but I see them as SACD's for Video, videophiles will buy them but the average consumer will ignore them at large until A) They're forced to upgrade or B) The HD Mandate actually goes through, right now it's set for 2009 and perpetually postponed as time goes on, translatyion: HD-DVD's future is unknown then we have Blu-Ray and EVD's and al other sorts of formats.
2. Who says you can't build a drive that plays GCN and larger DVD's!? My PC plays 3cm Disc's and 5.25" Disc's and there's no problem, my DVD Recorder can write DVD-RAM's -- in CARTRIDGES, Panasonic developed this so the tray design in the N5 will probably be similar, iif HD-DVD's are larger or in a cartridge the only differance will be price and that's like saying the Xbox or PS2 should loose CD Support for DVD-Only support. The price differance is small enough that it won't matter.
3. Can someone give me HD Specs? I thought not! They haven't been finalized yet!
So HD-DVD's would be a fiasco for awhile it looked like AOD was going to be the HD Standard EDV's looked good for awhie so did do Blu-Ray and HD-DVD what gets picked is up in the air though.
Right now though I'm GALD Nintendo is using abckwards compatibility. Every time I get a new Nintendo console I have to leave its' predeccessor conencted to play games from last-gen. I hate that it takes up space and wiring and looks bad in general. If the GBA wasn't abkcwards compatiible I'd ahveot have two GB's around all the time, three for GBC and GB and GBA games! This is the smartest thing Nintendo's done!
Microsoft, Sony, AND Nintendo's N5 are all abckwards compatible so I don't see a problem, it was a lack of backwards compatibility that killed the N64 and weakened the SNES which
HAD originally planned for it but it cost too much with cartridges.
If the N64 could play all my SNES games I think the sales would've improved but Yamauchi was an idiot and killed his system, th GCN had to be without Backwards compatibility because of the Disc's being used! There is NO EXCUSE to have forwards-compatibility anymore with Optical Storage.
Ok, I'd like to see that controller re-designed, it's really not that different from the PS2 controller, just move the buttons arouund, size them normally etc., etc and you're fine the analog stick and D-Pad should swap places and the Z-Trigger should be doubled so it doesn't look "odd" in some places, the changes would just mean you need to memorize where new buttons are and if you can't do that you're probably the same person who can't use OS X and Windows 98. It's easy stuff, not rocket science here guys.
Also with Yamauchi out of the picture (I miss people asking when he's going to die, it used to be so much fun! Even the Japanese newspapers did it!

) the N5/Project Revolution is just that, a revolution in how we play Nintendo games, I hope they don't make another cube-shaped system but unique features that have been touted would be nice.
I want them to retool that controller, let you get a colored case a la the old GB's in multi-colors, have backwards compatiblity and a Built-in Game Boy Player for the next-Gen Gameboy system, if the DS does well they can sell an add on for that.
A goood idea would be three N5's though, "Lite," "Standard," and something like "The Iwata Edition."
The "Lite" version would just play games and could maybe block M-Rated games, it'd be the "Kids system" -- the same way kids get low-end PC's. The "Standard" edition would be a game system with some extra features and no ratings block or anything, a standard competitor for the XBX and PS3. The "Iwata Edition" would be produce in limited quantites anda vaiilable oonly throgh Nintendo online or large electronic's stores, it would have the built-in GB PLayer and be produced in limited quantites for die-hard ans individually numbered, as a Bonus, for the NES' 20th Anniversary if released in 2005 it could have a "Bonus Disc" of all NES Classics included, it wouldn't be as overpowered as the PSX but would be a high-end system.
Just some ideas....
Oh and gekko PLEASE tell me CamFu Bot is NOT the CamFu we all know as "that bald guy who's become the GT Figurehead" -- CamFu is like the GT Mascot, but CamFu Bot sounds like someone cloned "da 'Fu" and didn't program in intelligence, if he's a robot though... does he also need a lifetime supply of shampoo for his birthday?
