Re: GameTavern PokeTournament!
That sounds like a fair system, although it takes longer to pick them using a random number generator.

Re: GameTavern PokeTournament!
We could also draft based on the already predetermined tiers that are already available on smogon, which is where I have got most of my information involving tournament rules so far. If we drafted so that everyone got two from the highest tier, two from the middle and 6 from the lower tier, we could assure that everyone has an equal number of equally useful pokemon. This would not take dylflon too long to pull a draft from either as the lists already exist.
I'd suggest something like this simply due to the fact that the other drafting methods may lead to a lack of balance, for example: theslymoogle's draft compared to say Rock Adams or BLueFires, who probably have the strongest lists so far.
If anyone else likes this idea for the draft then help expand on it, since we still need to know how many from each list etc. that everyone thinks is best.
Edit - Also anyone whose list already conforms to the decided amounts from each list won't have to be redrafted. Dylflon's draft for instance has two from the highest tier (Dusknoir and Gallade), two from the middle (Swellow and Ninetails) and 6 from the lowest. This would also help save some more time compared to having to redraft everyone.

Wha?
No no.
My dislike falls into how the tournament rules and regulations are, not time/pokemon I got.
I'm not a fan of the "Okay, breed this pokemon until you get the best stats possible, then level it up like mad to level 50, and fight everyone else who did the exact same thing, thusly nullifying exactly what you did to yours."
I'd be more down if it was like "Pick 6-8 normal pokemon under level 35 which you catch in your game. No breeding, no trading. Whatever your game has in it, and whatever you're able to catch and raise yourself, is what you get."
To me, that seems a lot more fair than "Make sure it's an aggresive type so it levels up mostly in attack and defense."
That, is my gripe with it.

Andrew, if you don't mind, you could find out what tier each persons mons are from, and then if their list works out then we won't redraft for them and just use the 6 that conform to a fair system.
But say they have too many top tiers (like Rock for instance), they have to pick two of them and throw the others out. If anyone is lacking mons from any tier, then we'll redraft those.
Or we can just redraft with those tiers in mind, draft 9 pokemon (3 from each tier) and take the banned ones out.
Let's get a public opinion on this.

PS Why didn't the gagger just re-use his Fission Mailed account?

We couldn't remember what his old account was! It's so obvious now.

Breeding pokemon over and over to get the best stats is pointless unless you are trying to get a nice IV, which to me ruins the game. I don't even think about those. There is no way to find them out in-game, they weren't meant to be known. I wish they didn't exist, every pokemon should start with a 31 IV. It's totally random and out of control.

Either way works fine with me really, i'm only really interested in finding a method that everyone agrees with that allows for some decent balance. The specific reason for the 2-2-6 thing was that it requires people to use all 3 tiers rather then 3 of each which allows people to ignore the bottom tier entirely, which is not what I would like to see. Here is the list of how everyone's draft looks.
Dylflon
High-2 (Dusknoir and Gallade)
Medium-2 (Swellow and Ninetails)
Low-6
Typhoid
High-0,
Medium-3 (Typhlosion, Yanmega, Nidoqueen)
Low-7
Frankenstan
High-2 (Togekiss, Machamp)
Medium-1 (Clefable)
Low-7
Rock Adam
High-3 (Empoleon, Scizor, Magnezone)
Medium-1 (Magmortar)
Low -6
Vampyr
High-1 (Gyarados)
Medium-3 (Clefable, Ninetails, Crobat)
Low-6
Combine 017
High-4 (Dugtrio, Magnezone, Vaporeon, Porygon-Z)
Medium-2 (Sceptile,Rotom)
Low-4
BreakABone
High-3 (Dusknoir, Mamoswine, Gengar)
Medium-1 (Claydol)
Low-6
Swan
High-3 (Vaporeon, Abomasnow, Bronzong)
Medium-2 (Weezing, Houndoom)
Low-5
BLueFire
High-4 (Gliscor, Froslass, Porygon-Z, Machamp)
Medium-2 (Omastar, Mismagius)
Low-4
TheSlyMoogle
High-1 (Rhyperior)
Medium-0
Low-9
Fox 6
High-0
Medium-3 (Claydol, Feraligatr, Ninetails)
Low-7
Suprisingly, most lists are relatively close to 2-2-6 with only a few adjustments needed. Sorry about the length of the list, but it is useful to show how some people like Theslymoogle and Fox 6 have lists that are quite bad while Combine 017 and BLueFire have very good lists.

Re: GameTavern PokeTournament!
So the tiers break down into Overused Underused and Never Used. I find tihs both itneresting and helpful.
I think 2-2-6 is also a good way to draft this thing out. It means pretty much everyone will have 4 good Pokemon on their teams and 2 average ones to round it out. I'll start making people's roster adjustments this evening.
If anyone wants to add any input about how they think we should break the teams down on a tier based level, I'm all ears. Sorry about the confusion everyone. We'll get this down and hopefully everyone will be happy.
I guess we'll start knocking things off that are on SlyMoogle's ban list too. (Sorry about your Togekiss, Andrew)

That's more like it, yes. Except you have to choose two from your list of best pokemon to get rid of and get crappier ones instead.

Re: GameTavern PokeTournament!
Before I can balance everything I need some people to decide on who they want redrafted.
Rock Adams needs to get rid of either empoleon, Scizor, or Magnezone.
Vampyr needs to get rid of either Clefable, Ninetails, or crobat.
Combine needs to get rid of two of the following ugtrio, Magnezone, Vaporeon, Porygon-Z
BreakABone needs to get rid of Dusknoir, Mamoswine, or Gengar
Swan will have Bronzong removed.
BlueFire needs to drop 2 of the following: Gliscor, Froslass, Porygon-Z, Machamp
Sly - you get to drop 3 of any Pokemon besides Rhyperior.
Fox - Drop Claydol, Feraligatr or Ninetails plus any two of your other Pokemon.

Wait ok I'm lost here in this thread now?
I was under the impression that we would redraft based on one of these new systems entirely?
Totally confused now.
EDIT:
Oh I get it now. Hmm just not sure why some of us couldn't have complete redrafts if we wanted though. In other words I hate bug pokemans. I'll take 6 shitty pokemans as long as most of them aren't bugs.

Don't worry. You'll get your good mons. Just pick your 3 worst ones and jettison them.
