(European?) GameCube reads VCDs.
It seems that at least the European GameCube can read video CDs!!
Quote:
Mathieu Minel, PR-Manager of Nintendo Fr., has told the press at Milia 2002 that the GameCube supports Video-CD's. The reason why he brought it up was because of a little chat he had with Xavier from Puissance-Nintendo regarding a Star Fox demo movie displayed at Milia 2002.
Because of the fact that that GameCube only played the movie in pretty low quality, Xavier asked Mathieu Minel why the movie was not of a very high quality.
This is what Mathieu Minel answered: "I am sorry for the quality of the movie, but it is because we burned a video-CD and not a DVD. The GameCube can read films."
There you have it. The GameCube supports VCD playback. You better start burning, soon you will be able to watch your entire movie collection on the GameCube!
Reported live, from Milia 2002

I guess they mean you can put movies on those little CDs. I never knew there were empty ones!

Damn you Europeans! Damn you to- I mean, good for you and all.
How many MB can you fit on those little discs anyway? Could you fit an entire movie on one?

Mini CDs? I think they only hold 150 MB, but I could be wrong.

Well im sure they are not that stupid. The GAME part would likely only read the Gamecube dvd type disc. So you could control anything you put on the CD's.

DVDs hold more. GameCube disc are more like DVDs than CDs. They're talking about video CDs. Which hold less. Probably couldn't fit an entire movie on one. Damn this thong underwear.

The discs are NOT 150mb. They are 1.5GB, just like the GOD's.
Matu****a, 3M, and Toshiba make the 1.5 GB CD-R's, originally for use with digital cameras, home studio equipment and the like. But now that the GCN's been hacked, the things are selling like hotcakes. You can find them on popular import sites like Lik-Sang.com, or any DVD-R merchandise site.
The only thing separating the the CD-r 3 in. discs and the GOD's are the amount of encryption on a GOD is insane, plus the ability to double and triple-layer the GOD disc. This cannot currently be done with a standard 8cm CD-r burner, so pirated games would have to be downsampled to be fully playable.
They're essentially the same disc, nonetheless; just different in how they are made and recorded onto.

I believe there was a topic about this over the summer that Gekko made, and we were all talking about how GCN was hacked before it was even released in Japan. Nintendo KNEW the GameCube (or any hardware console, for that matter) could be hacked, but they knew it wouldn't be feasable due to the rarity of 8cm burners and HD kits.
But hackers are always one step ahead; there were ways to hack GCN thru Panasonic Q, thru a separate CD drive (that connected to the GCN serial port), and modding GCN's to read RW/DVDRW laser classes. It's sad, but true- even the PS3 will have games availble to download from the hack scene before it arrives.
At any rate, this has been going on for awhile now, and will continue until the hacking groups in China are diluted.

They hold around 250. Of course that's a 3" vcd . I know this because the GC demo disc nintendo released, the one that had previews of the games, said it held that much inforation when I put it on my pc. But if you people mean the normal ones. I heard about ones that went up to a Gig. So I don't know.
