Default Paper Blu-Ray Disks

http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99994894

I just read it. Pretty interesting and cool. Still holds 25 gigs of data but only costs 51 cents to make! I want some screens of the paper disks. Better security and recycling is a plus with this paper method.

Manufacturing cost = 51 cents
Cost to Consumer = 51 dollars
Profit = $50.49

Knowing your ripping all the consumers off with outragous prices... Priceless

I think it says "it consists of 51 per cent paper" not 51 cents to make. I thinks its pretty cool, but I hope it can handle scratches pretty well, because one small scratch can mean a lot of data.

The resulting prototype consists of 51 per cent paper but is still capable of storing up to 25 gigabytes of data. Regular DVDs have less than half this capacity.

Good eye......good eye.......

Good, a renewable resource. Let's just hope they're not too crazy about it and go and cut down multiple forests just for this.

Pfft. 51?

151 is more like it, especially if they can make it small.

Who knows, it may work. Although I doubt everyone will be changing all of their cd storage to blu-ray disks anytime soon.
