I'm going to guess that Swan pulled the squirrel out of the fire, and ate it for dinner. IT did take him like 2 hours to prepare.

Can you describe in greater detail it's state of dying?

Was it injured, mortally wounded, unconscious, shallow breathing, etc...

I would have taken it to a wildlife center for care and healing
