Default TMNT Return to the Big Screen

After a 14 year absence, last film was in 93 (I hear not a fan of the 3rd movie)

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles return to the big screen in an all new CGI movie.

This movie apparently notes that the first two movies (getting mixed messages on this, I hear the first one only as well) and not the sequel(s) take place.

You have no idea how excited I am. Was worried from looking at stills but in motion this looks quite good. They look like a mix between the original comics and the live action movies.

My friend showed me this earlier today.
We're happy they're keeping it stupid with the whole 'Mikey' thing.

You do know what the N in TMNT stands for, right?

Ninja.

Just thought I'd sort of fill you in on that.

Hmm, well it wouldn't really matter with the third since it doesn't share much continuity with the first two other than knowing April and having the subway station lair founded in the second film (I believe they still had that in the third). Can see why would want to continue from first. Although Shredder "dies" in both the first and second, he's still human (though assumed dead) at the end of the first and could rise again with some scheme. Too much to explain with the mutagen if continues after second movie...although would be great if they did.

I believe I still have the making of the second film on tape somewhere as well as their interview with Barbara Walters. Oh, and to make things even better/nostalgic this could be the triumphant return of Vanilla Ice and the Ninja Rap...or not...DVD extra perhaps?

EDIT: From Wikipedia:
Quote:
Peter Laird has gone on to note in interviews that the fourth in the movie series will retcon the third movie out of existence, and base it in the continuity of the first film, and the portions of the second that made sense to him (the TMNT learning their origins and Shredder's death) much like Superman Returns is based on the first movie and aspects of the second
Quote:
Peter Laird has said there will be multiple villains and that Shredder is not one of them.

The June 2006 Licensing magazine had a brief synopsis. It said, "Strange events are occurring in New York City, and the Turtles are needed more than ever, but Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo have become lost and directionless. With the city at stake, it's up to Leonardo and Zen Master Splinter to restore unity and ninja discipline to the Turtles."

I love TMNT, but I really, really hate CGI movies. This will be a mixed bag for me.

I like all the pixar movies but I hate this godawful trend of CGI films. I didn't like Shrek when I saw it. Mike Myers can do better things with his time.

As for the constant onslaught of cookiecutter movies with "all-star casts", they can go shove it. I'll give you a list here:

Quote:
* The Ant Bully — Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures, Playtone and DNA Productions
* A Bug's Life — Disney and Pixar
* Antz — DreamWorks Animation
* Barnyard — Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon Movies, and DNA Productions
* Cars — Disney and Pixar
* Chicken Little — Walt Disney Feature Animation
* Final Fantasy: Advent Children — Square Pictures
* Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within — Square Pictures
* Finding Nemo — Disney and Pixar
* Flushed Away — DreamWorks Animation and Aardman Animations
* The Flyanator (Coming Soon) - A max Film and Paramount Pictures
* Ice Age and Ice Age: The Meltdown — 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios
* Happy Feet — Warner Bros., Village Roadshow Pictures and Animal Logic
* Hoodwinked and Hood vs. Evil — Kanbar and Weinstein Company
* The Incredibles — Disney and Pixar
* Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius — Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon Movies, and DNA Productions
* Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie - Big Idea Productions and FHE Pictures
* Madagascar — DreamWorks Animation
* Monsters, Inc. — Disney and Pixar
* Monster House - Columbia Pictures
* Open Season — Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation
* The Polar Express — Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures Imageworks
* Robots — 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios
* Shark Tale — DreamWorks Animation
* Shrek and Shrek 2 — DreamWorks Animation
* Toy Story and Toy Story 2 — Disney and Pixar
* The Wild — Disney and C.O.R.E.
More than half of those aren't worth watching. I wouldn't say there's "lots of great" CGI films, but I would say there's a handful of good CGI films.

i'd say more then half of all movies in general arent worth watching. theres a lot of crap made in every kind of movie.

i'd say your right theres a handfull of good CGI films in that list. but i'd also say theres a handfull of Great ones. and a bunch of mediocer and crap ones.

but thats no different then anything else. i know where your coming from when you say the trend. but im not seeing it as a trend.. seems like the same amount of animated movies as theres always been. they're just doing it a different way. In the end, as long as a movie is good i dont care in what way they make it or in what style. just as long as its good.

when i saw that this thread had been posted, my money was on:

a) that Penguino must've created it
b) that the first word in it would be "well"

...1 out of 2 aint too bad

I don't really see how many of those films could be considered "cookie-cutter" CGI films, mostly noting Toy STory (which was the first) and the Final Fantasy films.

While I agree that the trend of pumping out as many CGI movies as studios can (especially ones with cute animals doing cute things)is annoying, I don't see how a movie could be considered bad ot cookie-cutter just because its CGI.

/me shrugs and walks away

Opposed to studios pumping out as many human-oriented movies as they can?

I agree with Dyne to a certain extent. The main companies making similar themed films at the same time...Finding Nemo and Shark Tale, Antz and A Bug's Life. And now Ant Bully. Jerry Seinfeld has a CGI movie coming out called Bee Movie but it's Seinfeld and involves bees suing humans for the use of honey so I'm fine with it. Madagascar and The Wild...can you get more similar? Still not sure about Flushing Away and Ratatouille. And the use of famous actors to plug the movie is the worse. The cast of Shark Tale was sickeningly Hollywood.

Here's some more info on TMNT. Glad about the no name actors. Plus I heard they all record in the same room which is almost never the case so there's some improv too.

Quote:
With the teaser trailer now online, Superhero Hype! has learned a few more bits about TMNT--the first all CG animated "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie--at Comic-Con in San Diego. We've also posted four new character posters that were on display, which you can find here!

- Writer-director Kevin Munroe was present and revealed five minutes of footage from the anticipated film, which is set after the second live action movie.

- He said that the film will feature hidden jokes from the comics and animated series.

- Splinter will be voiced by Japanese actor Mako. The other voices will be announced in a month, but they are not well-known celebrities.

- Shredder is not the villain in the story, though he does make an appearance, which might set up the conflict for the sequel.

- Expect Casey Jones and April to develop a relationship.

- Marco Beltrami is doing the score, and they are looking to create a theme for the "Turtles" CG movies, something memorable like the "Batman" theme.

- One of the scenes shown features a turtle dressed up for a kids party, and the kids beat him up, with one of the little girls kicking him in the balls. A lot of action scenes were also shown, like the turtles on skateboards, hang gliders, etc.

- The movie features a bat character and female ninja characters.

- There is a human villain, who may or may not be named Winter.
Bat? If Wingnut and Screwloose are there...me a happy camper.

EDIT: More info: http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=23927 and four turtle posters
