Pay whatever you want to buy World of Goo (PC/Mac/Linux)

I donated $1, so now my PC version is legal! Of course I already had it on WiiWare.

I thought this was over? I saw a chart saying that most people gave 1 cent or $2 :)

It has been extended to Oct. 25 because of the success of the sale.

Interesting bit:

They sold about 57,000 copies during this special sale.
People paid an average of $2.03.
13% went to Paypal fees.

That means they made just about $100,000 even during this one week sale. That's a lot of money for such a simple game!

Interesting experiment.

Radiohead did the same thing way back in the last few months of 2007 with their latest album, In Rainbows. They never announced any statistics though.

In Rainbows was actually quite a success as you can see via this link. They used the "Freemium" sales strategy that has worked for bands such as Nine Inch Nails as well. Essentially, it mean releasing a base product for cheap or free usually, then including several other premium options that thus cost more but bundle in physical memorabilia as well. The cost-beneficial ones are the super premium bundles that include deluxe version of the album, going for over hundreds of dollars usually, and being bought by super fans. Naturally, only bands with big followings could make use of this strategy.

Oh, and I would totally download this for 1 cent if I had Leopard for Mac.

In other news, they're porting it to the iPhone.
