Well, it's in response to Gmail, I know that.

I had no idea when they were rolling it out though. My hotmail hasn't been updated yet though, so...... dunno :(

Didn't do anything special, every day I check my hotmail maybe once just to delete some crap which would be taking up space. Yesterday I noticed I somehow had only 1% taken up, so I was like "sweet".

All of my friends have 250 mb. I don't have a hotmail, but I'm pretty sure everyone's getting this.

It's the fall plan. To combat Yahoo AND gmail, they're boosting everyone up. If you're not being boosted up, Microsoft hates you and wants you to die.

Is your account close to maxing the storage? I'm thinking maybe they're giving it mainly to people who are always near full storage, like me. I have pages of emails I have never deleted, because they contain valuable information I may need at some point, so basically every day I'm just checking my hotmail for the sole purpose of cleaning it out to have space for important emails.

But now I'm always at 1% used storage. W00T

Well I sent Hotmail an email on the matter and they responded a little later than they promised, but they certainly seem very nice and understanding on the matter. Here's what they had to say:

We are still on the process of upgrading all free accounts to a larger storage capacity of 250MB. There are still a lot of free accounts that has yet to be upgraded. You are important to us, and our Technical Support Engineers are working hard on this, so you could enjoy the benefits of a 250MB account the soonest possible time.

Yeah, my band's e-mail was finally upgraded to 250 MB but my personal account isn't yet. It's great though because we always hovered at about 85% and now we're down to 1%...Fantastic.

I'm pretty sure it's based on how active your account is.

If you're up in the 50-100% storage usage then you get updated.

My old hotmail got updated even though I don't use it much anymore, but the 2 mb's were pretty done.
