Re: NFL 2011-2012
That was definitely some sketchy officiating.
Lions look (possibly) like the real deal. Vick has a broken hand? Ouch. |
Re: NFL 2011-2012
Yeah, another rough one for the Eagles. Teams are picking on their weak spots (LB and Safety) and they are very weak... I don't know, I just thought the Eagles would be better than this. I think they can get better, but it's not looking great so far.

Re: NFL 2011-2012
The issue with the Eagle's defense is completely the fault of the coaches and management. The Eagle's defensive scheme relies completely on the offense scoring points. They went all out pass rush and coverage, ignoring any concern for the run in an assumption that teams would always be playing from behind. To top it all off, the Eagle's pass defense has been terrible with THREE PRO BOWL CORNERS.
And why in hell is Clay Matthews still allowed on the field? He seems to be getting worse week after week in coverage and against the run. I've never seen a linebacker so tentative to make contact or a decision. |

That said, they still come back from 14-0 to take a 16-14 lead after half-time. They had the chance to put the game further away, but had some terrible short down plays. Then Vick gets hurt again and it all falls apart. I'll agree with Clay Matthews, but this team problems everywhere. I still think they'll be good, but I just don't know. I've overreacted to Reid teams before so I won't do it yet, but if they don't make the playoffs with these players, then some big changes should be made. |

ESPN is hyping them up like they are the real deal. It's probably still premature to tell. For example, I watched the 4th Quarter of the Bills vs. Pats game, and Fitzpatrick played really well but he also made a few mistakes that could be detrimental down the road. So despite the hype and momentum, I have to think the Bills will come back to earth eventually. The rest of the more established and consistent pack will catch up. You have to imagine that both Fitzpatrick and Stafford are being studied on tape across the NFL, and that as the season moves forward teams will get better at defending them. Packers and Lions would be fun. I'm kind of pulling for an epic Bears meltdown. This organization needs new blood, starting at the top with Jerry Angelo. I can dream right? |
Re: NFL 2011-2012
Oops, I meant Casey Matthews, not Clay. Clay is the good son.

Re: NFL 2011-2012
Also, one issue that needs to be addressed (at least by the media) is Vick's inability to read defenses or check off to hot routes. The o-line is getting a lot of bad press, but quite honestly they aren't playing badly, and they're actually pretty good at run blocking.
Vick holds on the ball far too long, and I have yet to see him make a audible when faced with blitzes or coverage changes. Look at any high-level QB in this league and you'll see a player who plays brain first and talent second. Vick simply isn't playing like a top-level QB so far this season. |

GOD DAMN.
Forget 72 Virgins, I'll take the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. |
Re: NFL 2011-2012
Who would have thought the last two undefeated teams in the league would be the Packers and Lions? Sheesh.
Germy, Prof, Zebra -- Andy Reid out if this season continues to go south? |

I sure hope so! You sure hear what the sports radio personnel are saying about him. There's also a Philly comedian, Joe Conklin, who does impressions of all the coaches and players in Philly sports. They use him mostly for Reid though, which is great. I wish I could find the audio clip from yesterday making fun of Reid. http://www.joeconklin.com/media.html Speaking of that, it reminds me of this song from last year. In which Conklin does impressions of the commentators. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PwAS8qojqk And I'm glad the Lions are doing well. Even the Bills look promising to be a spoiler for every team they play this year. |
Re: NFL 2011-2012
I think the Bills are gonna come back down to earth. Hard. Maybe even starting with the Eagles.
I'm not an Eagles fan and don't follow the organization or the division outside of watching a few games. But from what I can tell the Eagles have a lot of talent...but maybe it isn't meshing well? I dunno. Seems like there is a lot of internal frustration. I'm still undecided on the Lions. As a Bears fan I am scared shitless. The Bears have given up a ton of offensive yards. I'm prepared to see some poundage on Monday night. It's going to be a hell of a game though. I'm really excited to see Packers vs. Lions in an offensive shoot-out. |
Re: NFL 2011-2012
I hope the Eagles continue to screw themselves over for the rest of the year. Maybe that will finally get them to fire Andy Reid and his coaches. The Eagles look awful top to bottom, and it all starts with the coaching. Nobody's trying to play anymore, which makes it hard to even want to watch them.

Re: NFL 2011-2012
On a lighter note, it was a ton of fun to watch the Eagle's explosive offense during the 4th quarter. If they tighten up the offense and find some consistency they might just have the most destructive offense in the NFL.
The Bills also gave up a fuckton of offensive yards. Granted, they created a bunch of turnovers...I still think come crunch time the Bills are going to fall short. The Packers are a force. That's a fact. I can't wait for the Packers vs. Lions offense showdown. And it looks like all the Teboners will be blessed with the grace of the holy Tebow. Praise Tebow. |
