Re: Capcom's New Path for RE4

The reason RE2 got such low reviews on GC is because it cost fuggin 40 or 50 bucks or whatever it was...

The game itself was exactly the same as the Dreamcast version (which was exactly the same as the PS1 version with slightly upgraded graphics) which was released (for 20 bucks) on that system a couple years earlier, which was a few years after the game was originally released on PS1...

Thats the one thing I never understoord. $40 for a straight port, nothing made special game. At least REmake (1) was worth the price for what they did for making it look awesome on the 'Cube.

That is what I thought too. But check out what people are paying on Ebay.

Resident Evil 2 (GC)

Almost makes you wish that you bought a couple copies of it huh?

Man I wish game developers would use their time wisely and utilize PS2's vector units. If anyone remembers past articles, the PS2 has A LOT more power than everyone presumes. But no one wants to spend their extra time using the PS2's vector units.

I remember in an article a couple of months ago, that game developers are only using 60% of the PS2's power, using polygons instead of vector graphics. Since GC and Xbox are easier to design for, the graphics project well on those systems.

We need more games that use the vector based units. One game off the top of my head used the vector units, and that was Final Fantasy X.

Edit: Also, SONY put in the Vector Unit Processor for big and long games. Also for scaling purposes. If anyone knows about graphic design, they know Vector Based Graphics stay crystal clear , no matter how many times it's resized. So if a game used vector units for their graphics, the game would look slick on a big screen or a small screen TV. But I want developers to really consider this.... but too late now.... the power of the PS3 is on the horizon.

I remember reading about that..........Ps2 has some really nice visuals. Was there any other games using VUP? MGS2?

Damnit you beat me to it! I wanted to point out how crazy the prices were on Ebay because nobody bought it in the stores :<

anyways, a straight up port of an old game for 40 bucks is bad enough, but the fact that the same damn port was released like 2 years earlier for 20 bucks less on DC is even worse...

it's possible if they are planning to use this time to design in VUP.

but I got that piece roaming other PS forums and most of them had it... thats why I don't have a link.

The only games confirmed to have used the VUP (from many PS fan sites and also buried beneath IGN articles):

Final Fantasy X
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Samurai Warriors

I'm surprised to see KOEI in that list... but now that I think about it, when I'm playing Samurai Warriors or Dynasty Warriors... there are MANY people in high detail on the same map at the same time, and I don't get any type of lag or sluggishness in the PS2's framerate.

Also the visuals in FFX and gameplay was just amazing. Along with MGS3

Hey, the past RE games were challenging if you thought you had to kill every enemy you saw, even if you weren't heading over in their direction and you could easily outrun them :p

Im not buying that 5 hours of extra mansion crap at all. I need a decent source, and so far we still dont have one.
