After the blackout that occurred last summer, I promised myself I would buy activities that could be done without power.

Almost a year later, I finally brought myself a pack of cards. I don't usually play cards too often. but I do know a few games so I was wondering, can yal share some popular card games you play, if you play them. Or even variants on famous ones like Poker.

Texas Hold-em. Here is how to play:

In Hold-em (also known as Texas Hold-em), each player is dealt two cards face down. At this point betting opens based on the two "pocket cards" that each player holds. After betting is complete, the dealer lays out the flop. The flop consists of several cards dealt face up in the middle of the table, used as community cards. The dealer first lays three cards into the flop, so your initial poker hand will consist of the three flop cards plus your two personal cards. There is a betting round, then another card is added to the flop. More betting, and finally a fifth card is added. The goal is for each player to make the best 5-card hand possible based on his/her two pocket cards and any three cards in the flop.

Slapjack (http://www.pagat.com/war/slapjack.html) and Reverse Slapjack are my favorite card games. After that, Speed (http://www.pagat.com/patience/spit.html) is always fun and Spoons (http://www.pagat.com/passing/pig.html) is as well. These games money games, they're just for fun and to have a general good time :)

Have you played Pusoy (http://www.pagat.com/partition/pusoy.html) or Chinese Poker? I don't play it, but my Bro says it's really fun.

Asshole, its a fun game

How to play:

Set up with friends at a table. Whole deck is dealt out. Its kind of like Big 2 in a way, but not, you'll see why.

Card order. the cards hierarchy goes like so:

3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, A , 2

(yes. the 2 is the best card.) It also can be played in suits; suits are as follows from lowest to highest: Diamonds, Clubs, Hearts, Spades.

The first card that is always played is the 3 of diamonds.
Then the next player tries to beat it. And so on.
The player with the highest playable card starts the next selection ( this card can be anything, including doubles, trips and quads)

To beat a Quad Ace, you would need three 2's.
To beat a Trip Ace, you need two 2's
To beat a high double you need one 2.
( to beat a card witha 2, you need one less the number, unless it is singles)

The first person out is known as "President" then " Vice president" then "Neutral" then " vice ass" then " asshole"

The next game you play, when you have titles, there are stipulations.

President gives his/her 2 worst cards to asshole.
Asshole give 2 best cards to president
Neutral sits there and trades up to with any other neutral cards of their choice.( optional)
Vice president gives worst card to vice ass.
vice ass gives best card to vice president.

(in a game if you only have 4 people, the only titles are "pres" and "ass")

Dealing order:

The person who is dealt to first is the person on the left of the "asshole" thus making the asshole get the last card of the dealing.

NOTE: the first game you play has no titles, so everyone is neutral.

Yes i am aware this game doesnt really make sense when typed up, but its fun.


OTHER NOTE: If the person before you plays double 4's. You must play a double. If the card count is singles, it must stay singles until the set is over, same for doubles, trips and quads.

You may not have your last card as a 2, if you do so, you are automatically "asshole" for the next round.

I play Texas Hold-Em No Limit Poker all the time with my friends...twice a week, regularly.

I'm up $50 this month. :D

Me and my friend always played Texas hold-em at school during our lunch.

I won his rolex, then lost it a day later....


But we also bet money on "go-fish"

How it works : You place a bet before each game of a set amount, your betting on your ability to win.



ANOTHER FUN GAME:

War.

Very simple. The whole deck is dealt out to 2 people. Half and half. Then you pile yours up, and starting with the top card you flip one on the floor face up at the same time as your opponent.

The higher card wins.

But, if they ar the same card:

EXAMPLE: You both put down a 2 , then you both put down 3 cards face down, then a fourth face up, and the whoever has the highest fourth card gets all the cards.

The objective of the game is to have the most cards by the time the game is over, or your opponent runs out of cards.

Simple game.


But warning, it is a long game, me and Dylflon once played one game of it for close to 2 hours.

Hhah I loved Bullsh!t in School.

We use to play all the time during lunch or when subs were around.

It's weird though. I can keep a straight face when lying, but trying to tell the truth is tough for me.

I also play texas Hold 'Em, Spades, War (I Declare War as we call it), Crazy Ace (Uno with a standard deck of card) and some others I don't know the name of.

Speed
Five Card Draw (nothing wild)
Egyptian Rat Screw

We're not allowed to have cards in my school anymore. The Administration found out that some people were gambling, and I guess they banned it. It's really stupid, but whatever. I haven't played many card games since that happened.

Texas Hold'em is teh ****. In the military, spades is the game of choice, but you'll need 4 people.

I love playing Big 2 and Big Cheat with the Asians whenever I was on band trips, but I forget how to play all the time and need instructions. It's fun though. Big Cheat is just based around bluffing.

I love playing Asshole and War. Me and my friend always play war during science which is like an hour and twenty minutes I think. I haven't learned a thing in science because of that. Oh well.
And I remember on the last day of school me and the same friend both "slept in" for science and went to McDonalds and played Memory.

euchre is good, but I prefer a couple euchre variations over the original

its not too complicated once you've got the hang of it, if you understand trump then it is pretty simple
