It sounds awesome, now if only they'd reveal the price.....
They didn't reveal the price, right? :sneaky:
If the console is sorta pricey, I think it'd be neat if they pulled a Sega Nomad and you could hook the system directly to a TV and play it like that... Because then some would see it as a new home console as well :sneaky:
Now thats now a 'sleek' portable looks.
Nintendo will never be able to come up with a design as slick as that for the next gameboy.
Next game boy will prolly be a box again. but the screen will pop up out of it like a pop up phone instead of a flip one. heh.
The Germanator
05-11-2004, 02:19 PM
Doesn't really look all that "sleek" to me. In fact, it looks more standard and functional than anything else, which is more important than being sleek...
The Germanator
05-11-2004, 02:24 PM
Well, explain to me why that is sleek? It has the buttons on the right, the d-pad on the left, and it is black, just like the PS2. I just don't see anything surprising here, and I as I said, that's good. It's a nice, polished look, but I don't see how it's anymore sleek than the GBA.
well... game boy looks the same as it did when it first game out. a box.
This one is rounded, shinny, i think metal on the back, no? a clearish material on the front to give it the glossy look. buttons are a clearish plastic i believe and kinda rounded to conform to it giving it a more smooth look.
I dont see how you think that doesnt look sexy. IMO gameboy looks like a cheap plastic box.
but im not sayin your wrong. everyone has thier own feelings. just sounds like your saying it looks normal cuz the buttons are in normal places.
[edit] plus the wide screen is pretty slick lookin on it too. :p

from IGN:
First, some PSP specs. The system is 170mm long, 74 mm wide, and features a 16:9 aspect ratio widescreen 4.3" display. The screen itself is a high-quality TFT running at full color (16.77 million colors) at a 480x272 resolution. The PSP packs 32 MB of main memory as well as 4 MB of DRAM, along with a wireless port, USB, and a rechargable Lithium Ion battery good for 10 hours of play time.
PSP games and media will use the Universal Media Disc format, a compact, high-capacity optical disc capable of holding 1.8 GB of data.
The PSP is set to debut in North America in spring 2005.
The biggest news of all, though, are the titles shown in the conference. None of these are absolutely official, but here's what we heard about or saw:
Ape Escape
Dynasty Warriors
F1 Racing
Medieval
Metal Gear Solid
NBA Street
Need for Speed Underground
NFL Street
Tiger Woods
Tony Hawk Pro Skater
Twisted Metal
Wipeout
In addition, by way of demonstrating the PSP's movie playback capabilities, a clip of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children was shown playing on the system. This suggests that the Final Fantasy film sequel may be released on the PSP's UMD format. Look for more details very soon as more official specs, titles, and media roll in.

It looks declicious....
:WHOA:
in agreement with what you guys are saying, the Gameboy has always been a box. The Advanced made a flip up screen, making it somewhat more Advanced... no pun intended.
I think the PSP looks awesome, and with a screen that displays 16 million colors......... ahh heaven..

Meh.
What are you implying? It's too big or something?
Well if you were a little keener on your measuring skills, you'd see that 170mm long is equivalent to about 5 inches.

I shall empty my wallet for it!
Well if you were a little keener on your measuring skills, you'd see that 170mm long is equivalent to about 5 inches.
If YOU were a little keener on the metric system, it would be too small. According to google:
170 millimeters = 6.69291339 inches
DarkMaster
05-11-2004, 04:03 PM
Maybe you should do the math yourself.
1 inch = 32mm
1 inch x 5 = 160mm
which is closer to 170 than 1 inch x 6 = 192mm
Maybe you should do the math yourself.
1 inch = 32mm
1 inch x 5 = 160mm

I used google.com's calculator. It is improbable to argue with a computer.

Regardless, was that what you were implying before about its portability? The size issue?
The Germanator

Maybe you should do the math yourself.
1 inch = 32mm
1 inch = 25.4 millimeter
DarkMaster
05-11-2004, 04:12 PM
I have a measuring tape in my desk drawer, there are 32mm in an inch, unless they changed the metric system after this measuring tape was made.
Anyway...back to talking about PSP stuff.
Regardless, was that what you were implying before about its portability? The size issue?
I'm a little erked at the size of the buttons and the analog pad. It looks like they're going to be hard to get a feel for because they look so small. For something comfortable, I envisioned the buttons bigger, and so I thought the whole unit was large like that.
I'm not too impressed with the games, the only one of real interest to me is Dynasty Warriors and maybe Ape Escape.

psp is a http://www.aperfectworld.org/clipart/government/bomb.gif
well so far PSP looks a lot more interesting to me.
Not for the games, because IMO all portable games suck. and Neither DS or PSP games seem interesting at all to me.
But PSP has a lot more possibilites as far as a portable entertainment device.. Which is also the angle that Sony should be marketing it. Not as a portable game console. That would help them out a lot.

Because, the specs outlined for the PSP in the announcement use milimetres for size dimensions.

What sort of Memory Card is that?
i believe its just a normal Sony Memory stick
(not the same as a ps or ps2 mem card)
However because of the built in USB 2.0 plug you could i believe, simplay plug it into your PS2 and transfer files from the mem card to the mem stick. if needed.

Uh, yeah, Konami lets Silicon Knights run its franchise now. That's what most companies eventually do with their million dollar video game series.

it might use it. But as i said because of the USB connection it wont really be needed. would be just as easy to tranfer data before you take the PSP somewhere.
