If there is one thing pissing me off about FFXI, it's the walk from Bastok to the Valky... The walk is so bad that I'm thinking I may lvl up straight to 20 with MNK so I can go to Jeuno and get my Chocobo licence.
Do you think this would be wise? Or should I request help on this tasK? Also, once I get the Chocobo would I still be able to ride it at low lvls?

You only have to walk back when you need an armor upgrade, which will happen maybe once while lvling there.

True...
man, being in Valky last night opened my eyes... MNK is damn disrespected at lower lvls. I was very VERY lucky to be getting in such nice parties the first week of owning the game. Last night I sat there for 2hrs (while doing HW in real world) waiting for an invite. Absolutly nothing.
Then I acctually took it uner my own power to send a /tell to all the party leaders... Most of them said they were full (one turned around and shouted that he needed someone, freaking liar :p), some said they had an open spot wanted a WAR/WHM or BLM instead... and the higher lvl guys can grasp the concept that having a lower lvl person in your PT only hurts the lower lvl persons exp and nobody else's.
You were right all along DM, I would grow to hate that place lol.
I'm not going to go straight to 20, I'll lvl WAR to 10 first... but then I'm getting my Chocobo licence. I think I may change my job before I grow to dispise the people around me even more. :p (I'm not sure on that though). At the rate I'm going I'll be pissed off enough to become a beastmaster, lol.

are you serious?
*passes out*
I'll be on ALL night tonight, and I better get 18, even if that means farming sheep in the highlands for hours by myself lol. I made good friends with a high lvl WHM who power lvls people around the drunes... I don't think I'll ever turn her down for a party again lol. (we started power lvling three times, and each time some party comes with perfect timing and invites me lol)
I noticed that there are a lot of damage dealers out there and not as many tanks and healers... My patience may be getting the best of me, but I think I may have to switch up to one of the two. (and sense young PLDs are getting quite popular... may have to be a mage).
Do you think a RDM/WHM would be easy to lvl? (when it gets to around yout lvl too)

I went a whole weekend without a single invite to a party. Left my guy seeking in Jeuno while I did stuff in the real world. I hated the game so much then I wanted to freakin shoot it out the window. But sh*t happens, it's not always that bad. If I wait over an hour now I'll just make a party, that usually works, but since I'm so lazy I hate being leader.

Well if your going to be a mage yes it will be easy for you to level up faster than normal. And since you want to be a RDM you will be loved at level 41 because you will have Refresh its a RDM must have spell. You might also want to start looking into getting Dispel(70k) soon its another RDM must have spell. There is one more spell Im sure you would like to have, Phalanx, but Im not sure if you will be able to afford it when you can use it since its about 150-170k. Have fun Being a RDM you wont have it as hard as us Melee to get PTs :)

It's a real drag thinking about starting over... but as I can see from you guys lvls you have started over at some point ;) I'll have to do some hard thinking about it though, because starting over in the end could probably save more time than it wastes. If I have a day like DM I would be very VERY pissed off (I noticed you didn't budge from Lower Jeuno, lol).
What I know for sure is the decision will be made after I get the sub job ability unlocked... No matter what I'm glad I started as a MNK, because doing magic is quite the interesting thing on Ps2. Using the controler promotes Melee battle very well, but when you get to using the magic and Macros the Keyboard is best. Sadly I have gotten used to using the analog sticks to move, and the directions on the keyboard feel terrible now.

Yeah, if you don't want to start at level 1 with an advanced job later, then become something like RDM now or very soon. Hell, I started over like 4 times.. leveled WHM, then leveled MNK, then leveled DRG to 16... and now PLD to 32. Although MNKs may be good (and they are), I don't even remember the last time I pt'd with a MNK.
Right now, I'm only level 32 PLD and I absolutely hate being this level. So you can see that I wasn't thrilled to start over from 30 WAR after all that crap I went through at the crappy leveling spots. But, it's all worth it at the end, I just can't wait until I'm level 50, then I will feel more "complete".
You also mentioned that young PLDs are popular now.. what I've noticed is that there seem to be an awful amount of PLDs on (compared to other A. Jobs like DRK, SAM, etc). I'm not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing. I think a lot of people that are below level 20 PLD are just doing it to get easy party's... I hope they realize being a PLD requires much responsibility. As PLD you can never not pay attention to the fight, especially at higher levels, because the whole party relies on you. Within the next 10 levels I need a hell of a lot of money, but I will stay and earn every bit of amount because in the end I will be one of the better PLDs out there, at least at my level range. I've seen PLDs at my lvl wear -MND and -Evasion/AGI stuff.. and In my head I'm thinking "why??"
Anyway.. my point is, just be your favourite class, don't go by how long it takes you to reach a certain goal, as long as you play your favourite class and play it the way it's made, then you will be happy.

lol, that scares me...
For the most part I like being a Monk, the only downside is the PT invites lacking. I like having no real responseability except escorting people around and pummeling the hell out of some mob. (and looking out for gobs, but who doesn't do that?)
My problem with the Monk side of life is the lack of invites, my problem with the Mage side is I'll have to create more macros and change the whole style of play I have. Like I said, if I switch, it will be after I get my MNK up to 18 so I can get a sub job (that way I can look more advanced than I really am and bounce back anf forth... plus having MNK as a sub to WHM early on would only speed the begining of my life up)
I don't know, all decisions may have to be made after I get sub unlocked... not getting parties can sure make a man grumpy though

I've been a lvl 19 Samurai for quite some time.
TheGame, I've had three characters, two are level 15 THF without subjob, and the third is my main character with like 5 jobs that have levels.
31 WHM, 14 BLM, 19 SAM, 8 RDM, 5 MNK.
Just have fun in the game. You're gonna want to do something other than level sooner or later ;)
((P.S. Yes... that's right... I made a post.))

Ehh... it's going to be hard work for me to get that spell. At level 30+ me and two of my close friends are going to stop and farm together for hours, and hours, and HOURS. It's me (RDM/WHM), a THF/MNK (future Ranger), and a RNG/THF. At the moment I think if I do build up that kind of money I still probably won't be getting Phalanx. I'd have to invest into some type of crafting so I know my money isn't put to complete waste, and so I know it's recyclable.
RDM (and WHM) isn't a fast class to level if you want to be great at it... I like to be ahead of the curve in spells and gear, but that just isn't working out. But, I'm having fun non-the-less... 22-30 I'll have to just keep up on (important) spells and hope for the best Armor wise.
