I wanted to try something different to try and garner some activity on this forum as well as to be fair to the entire year.
I will break down the year into quadrants. Jan-Mar, Apri-Jun, July- Sept, Oct-Dec. List as best as I can big movies for each period and you pick the ones that you think deserve movie of the year for this year.
Then winners of the quadrant will be in a final movie of the year pool.
This thread is for the first quadrant Jan-Mar.
Some big releases for the time...
Freedom Writers
Happily N'ever After
Alpha Dog
Stomp the Yard
Blood and chocalate
Catch and Release
SMoking Aces
Farce of the Penguins
Hannibal Rising
Norbit
Music and Lyrics
Breach
Bridge to Terabitha
Ghost Rider
The Number 23
Reno 911!: Miami
Home of the Giants
Black Snake Moan
Zodiac
Wild Hogs
300
I think I Love My Wife
Premotion
The Hills have Eyes 2
The Lazy Mimzy
Pride
Reign Over Me
Shooter
TMNT
Blades of Glory
Live Free or Die
Meet the Robinsons
Not saying these were all the movies released but the larger ones. If you have any that you want to vote for be my guess.
To make it easier, you can vote for up to 3 just rank them with 1 being the highest and 3 the lowest.

I think the only movie I saw from that list was Black Snake Moan... I'd still probably only place it third on my list...
"The Lazy Mimzy"
The Last Mimzy... How dare you insult such a quality family film...
1. The Bourne Ultimatum - Can't describe this, just great. The whole series, in my opinion, is better than LotR.
2. Zodiac - Good mystery, kind of like CSI, 3 hours long, and based on a true story.
3. 300 - Great cinematography, and like Sin City, does a good job on capturing the comic book feel.
Honorable mention: TMNT - Not as good as the legendary animated series (or the previous movies) but it's TMNT after more than 10 years, so it deserves a spot.
Bourne wasn't on my list at first, because it wasn't on BaB's list. After I made my list, I remembered the movie, and the others had to slide down.. :)
Edit: There was also Pan's Labyrinth. I liked it, and it may just slip in at no.3.. Or maybe not.. I can't decide..

300 was wonderful to look at, but in terms of story it really fell short compared to the amazing Sin City. Cool movie, yes, instant classic, no. Zodiac was really well crafted and held my interest from start to finish, it had great cinematography and was all that much better because it was based on a true story. The Bourne Ultimatum was a spectacular thriller type movie. I'd say it is a toss up between those two.

The only 2007 movies I saw:
Sunshine
Pirates of the Caribbean 3
Spider-Man 3
The Bourne Ultimatum
Transformers
Of which only The Bourne Ultimatum was great. Transformers and Sunshine were good, Pirates and Spider-Man were crappy.
Of those one's the only ones I saw were 300, Live Free or Die Hard and Reign Over Me.
I really liked Reign Over Me though I wouldn't say it's close to movie of the year

Live Free or Die Hard - really entertaining
Black Snake Moan - a sexy, sexy flick

1. Reign Over Me (Easily the best movie of that list)
2. Live Free or Die Hard (Not sure what this is doing here since It was released on June 27th, anyways it was better than I expected)
3. Blades of Glory (Actually very funny)
I thought these were pretty good:
Ratatouille
No Country for Old Men
The Host
Eastern Promises
3:10 to Yuma
Rescue Dawn
Grindhouse
American Gangster
Stardust

Because there's no "Hard" at the end of the title...
Although according to my sources, Live Free or Die was "released" (I'd say on the film festival circuit) in 2006... And it's official theatrical release (on a whole 5 screens) was actually April 1st...
Which should still put it in the next category...

Damnit you caught me.
I was just gonna make people think it was Live Free or Die Hard since so many assumed as much.
Then wanted to correct and saw another site listing 2006 so didn't want to be correct and than wrong on the date.
My source had it listed for like March something so maybe its one of those weird. Limited release than larger release movies.
And don't know if want to do rounds since very few followed it. Haha

In that case, I vote for Control.
The only movie out of the four I've seen all year that I wasn't dragged to by a friend.
