I learned a few days ago that my library has TV seasons on DVD. I originally borrowed CSI: Miami with my friend Holly so we could watch Horatio's crazy Miami antics, but I learned they had others. I kept renting CSI:M until 24 came in, and now the first season is. I rented disc one yesterday and watched all of it, and today I watched all of disc 2. Disc 3 is up for tonight.

They have up to season 4. Is that all that's out?

Why is this series so good?*

*Disclaimer: I totally saw the cameraman in the scene after Nina got "shot" by Jack where she's in an abandoned barn trying to phone CTU, though. That was kind of lame.

Well the first five seasons are out on DVD now.

Season 6 is currently on TV.

Maybe someone has season 5 out right now. Wouldn't be surprised.

That other thread we have regarding season six in addition to Neo's testimony prompted me to buy all five seasons that are currently on DVD. I too, had never watched the show but I'm hooked now. Just started season three. I've been going through 3-5 episodes a night.

Jack Bauer is one BAMF (bad ass mutha fuc.ka).

And since you have a Mac, you should download MacTheRipper (http://www.mactheripper.org/) so you can make 'backup' copies of the DVDs to cherish for years to come.

I'm glad I've watched the show on DVD. The quality is better (unless you have HDTV) but that doesn't stop the annoying commercials from breaking up each engaging episode. Even with DVR, you still have to fast forward through the junky commercials.

Anyway, this show gets my seal of approval.

what has the world come to...

i think think he meant commercials with HDTV.

HDTV is better quality then DVD, but you have to deal with the commercials.

is there a difference between HDTV cable and a DVD playing on a progressive scan DVD player with an HDMI cable running at 1080i?

I ask because DVDs look darn crisp on my father's new Sharp Aquos, couldn't tell much of a difference between HDTV and DVDs (the newer DVDs anyway).

HDTV signal is better quality then a DVD running on a hdtv.

but theres also upconvert dvd players that will upgrade the quality, im not sure about how those work and what its really doing to a standard dvd tho.

Up-converting DVDs are making pixels where none exist. While it looks a little better, it's not nearly as good as watching a picture that's in native 1920x1080. My experiences with HDTV cable are amazing, but I only pick up the HD-exclusive channels out here (700s), and picture is always better on higher numbered stations.

Regardless, if the show is filmed and broadcasted in 1080i, it will look better than a DVD up-converted to 1080i. It would be worse than a HD-DVD though.

Is '24' like a TV show or something?

I've only just begun my journey into Day 3 but so far, I think Chase is an arrogant, douche-bag.

How dare he challenge and question the decisions of his higher ranking partner, Jack Bauer. If he was partnered with anyone else, sure, go for it, but Jack Bauer is CTU's and pretty much the President's greatest asset. And has already proven himself to be the greatest through day one and day two.

Chase is just a stupid, disrespectful youth. I hope a bad guy takes him out with a silencer.

If you want to know the backstory of Chase and other exciting CTU regulars such as Chloe, play '24' the game, available wherever videogames are sold!

Ok, I took out the last three discs. Is there only six discs for the first season?

Yeah each season is only 6 discs.

Should be 4 episodes a disc.

I just finished watching season 4 fifteen minutes ago. I'm tempted to say it was the best one yet.

I would rank them: 4-2-3-1

Too bad I only have two more seasons left to watch for now.

Ok, finished season 1. Fantastic. I thought the divorce scene was great. The ending and the alternate ending left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, can't really describe it, but I can't wait for season 2.

Neo

You didn't like either ending? They were complete opposites of each other haha.

I think Day 4 is by far the worst. If you take the terrorist's plot from beginning to end it's just a big ball of convoluted absurdity. The Jack as a one-man army scene was incredibly sweet though.

Day 3 is my fave because of my sick fascination with the subject matter, then it goes 1-2-5-4. Day 2 is a little more exciting than 1, but all the craziness involving Kim brought the season down a little. So far Day 6 is shaping up to be one of the best ever, and it contains the most mind-blowing hour yet.

Day 3 Notes:

- Ramon is cool
- Chase is still stupid
- Chloe is annoying and stupid, I don't care if she has audio expertise, I'd fire her ass faster than a speeding bullet

Is there only four discs in season 2? I didn't see 5 or 6 there today.

Anyways, just finished disc 3 of season 2. Still loving it to death.

Neo

There are more discs than that, unless you are referring to the new fangled packaging which puts two discs in the same case.

Have you found that while amidst in Day 2 you're once disdain for George Mason has turned into a strong liking for him?

George Mason is one cool guy.

I don't feel like Ryan really did. But you're probably referring to people and events that I'm not even aware of yet.

Well, in real life he's getting it on with Nina! He's one cool cat.

Yeah, I didn't like Almeida at first but now I think he's my favourite character. Behind Bauer, of course.

Dyne, give us an update on your 24 marathon.

As for me, I'm in the midst of Season 4 right now. Not too far along yet but I can't really see why people dislike this day so much.

Ooh ooh!

Well some *** took out disc 5, 6, and 7, so I had to put them on hold, and they finally came in. Thank god. I'll get to watch them tonight. It's too bad, it's been a week, so I can't remember what happened last, on disc 4.

The best thing about season 2... and pretty much a lot of the seasons afterwards is the fact that first half/second half have completely different plots.

Always wondered about that...

but yeah this second half really deals with the recording.

Don't you hate Sherry Palmer? What a m*thaf*ckin b*tch! If I were David, I would've capped her ass so fast... but David is a man of honor and integrity.

Needless to say, Day 3 and 4 add to the cast of African-American females who play the roles of total b*tches.

BTW Dyne, how'd you like the cliff-hanger at the end of Day 2? Is the suspence killing you? :D
