Default I live in a lake...

So, about a week ago, I returned to my college apartment to find the carpet in my living room to be soaked with water and full of mold. Aparently, water had soaked through the wall when a storm hit a couple of days before I came up. My backpack was sitting by the wall and got moldy as well as my bookcase which was ruined. I moved everything out and early the next morning, the landlord sent over a carpet guy to replace all the carpeting.

Well, yesterday, one week after the carpet was replaced, I awoke to find my carpet soaked again. I couldn't believe it. This is not something you expect to happen twice in one week. Well, this time is turns out that the reason for the mess was a sewer backup. Half my carpet was soaked with sewer water and I had to move most of my stuff out of the room and into my bedroom again. Turns out I didn't get the worst of it either. The guy on the other side of the apartment apparently came home after a twelve hour shift at 9am to find his apartment about ankle deep in water.

Well anyway, the carpet that was wet had to be removed because it was contaminated with sewer water. Keep in mind this carpet was just put in a week ago. As of right now, about 36 hours since it happened, the carpet hasn't been replaced. This means I can't watch tv, play my xbox or PS2, or generally use half of my apartment. Fun huh?

Anyway, thought some of you might find this humorous. Please pity me.

Included some pictures of my absent carpeting and crowded bedroom.

Ah, that sucks. Sewer water? That's pretty much the worst kind.

You have a Gameboy you can play though, right?

I feel you brother. We've had that happen in our basements in both of the houses ive lived in. Back in the old one, it was the sewer that backed up. Probably 5 inches deep of water throughout the basement. More recently in the new house, it seeped in through the walls. Trust me, I totally feel your pain, it sucks just as much and even more than Jeepnut is describing it.

He called me up on Sunday morning so that I could come over and help him out. Imagine my surprise later that evening when he called me to say that I should be concerned if I feel sick at all because I was exposed to so much bacteria.

I can not imagine what the guy in the other apartment is going through.

UPDATE: Found out today that the new carpeting won't be put in until Thursday. Bummer. I'm thinking that's too long to be without tv so I might suck it up and move the 100 pound behemoth back in there for 3 days.

Also found out today that there is another apartment that got hit even worse than the two I already mentioned. The woman that lives there isn't around though and the landlord can't reach her. Apparently, she has some real nice furniture too.

Thanks for the sympathy. Nothing was really damaged luckily as I said earlier. The main reason this is so annoying is I came up a week early to get my apartment all set up for the semester so that I wouldn't have to do it while in classes. Well, I had just got everything in place more or less when it happened for the second time. Oh well.

Sorry to hear that, Jeepnut. I'm just glad you weren't hurt. If it happens again, please consider finding a nicer place to stay. I hope you have a wonderful week.
