Eh, I've seen that criticism a lot. Many of the characters fit that definition but it mostly makes fun of the culture such as the example Prof gave. When I think hipster movie I think Napoleon Dynamite or Juno or any of those movies with hand-drawn titles. Of course hipsters are just the in-thing to bash on right now. Previously it was the emos. I'm just waiting for the next sub-culture to emerge for everyone else to hate.

I never minded emo or goth or steampunk people or whatever. They just want to wear their clothes and mope.

Hipsters actively try to put you down in regular conversation. It's not hard to be annoyed by them.

I think I could probably watch Scott Pilgrim and enjoy it somewhat, I just thought the references would be a little more cleverly used.

Heh, fair enough. Never engaged one in conversation before myself.

I primarily enjoyed it for the editing and action. It was the closest thing Edgar Wright's done since his show, Spaced, which I quite liked. A lot of quick editing and movie references in that.

I was behind a hipster in a record store and he asked for some band I've never heard of, and for a Japanese import only record. He didn't seem phased when he learned they didn't have it of course. But I just think he wanted people to hear him ask for it.

I watched Monsters (2010).
The atmosphere was great, the main characters were likable, the acting was good... The only boring part was (ironically) the monsters.

You liked that movie?
Ahhh, me and some friends couldn't really stand it. We made jokes before hand like "Hey, wouldn't it be funny if someone made a love-story that was just set in some type of alien invasion?"

And that's basically what it fucking was.

I was let down.

Yeah I can totally understand that. I expected a lot more monsters. Different types, more action, more suspense.
But I also expected a story about a guy and a girl... I enjoyed that part. The woman was beautiful (and cute) by the way.

Thor

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The Asgard bits felt like a more magical action-paced version of Game Of Thrones which I've been enjoying. The Earth bits were just ok. There was one annoying character who I heard they added more of after she did well with test audiences. Bleh.

The Illusionist (the recent animated one)

Sad and beautiful. Almost without dialogue like The Triplets of Belleville (which makes sense here since there's a language barrier between the two main characters). One thing that stuck out was that the camera angles were all static and reused over and over for the interiors. I wonder if that was to better concentrate on the character animation, since that was superb. But it also meant there were no closeups so you felt removed from the story a bit.

Agora. 7/10.
Interesting times. Shows how scary a mob can be when they know the government is behind them.

Not out in what sense?

Animal Kingdom, a really interesting Australian film. I highly recommend it, and its streaming on American Netflix.

9/10 if I had to score it.

My Bloody Valentine - A good old fashioned tits n' blood horror movie (obviously made for 3D). Pretty well done for what it was, and it does a smart job of questioning "who done it" until the very end. (I guessed it, but wasn't positive)

7/10

Interesting note, if you stream on Netflix the "thumb" images when you fast forward are actually from the ORIGINAL movie, not the remake.

Big CON: It starred Jaime King and she kept her shirt on for the entire movie... BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
