Re: The new Zelda
I was talking more about the tone of his voice, but whatever, i love both ideas, just no voice acting, and it will be fine.

Re: The new Zelda
The problem with voice acting is that the people in the game that talk to you won't be able to use your name. I name my link "Justin"... if there was Voice acting nobody else in the game would be able to say my name.

Re: The new Zelda
They did voice acting in GTA3 for everybody else but the main character, and that worked out fine...
I think at least the other characters in the game should talk... just as long as they get decent voice actors... Or maybe do a FFX kind of thing where the main characters talk (minus Link), but a lot of the common townsfolk and stuff still use text...

Yep, but the main character didn't have a name... you couldn't even name him youself.

That would work to an extent, but remember, Tidus in FFXI could talk too, and if it wasn't for him talking many parts of the game would have had to be much different.
-EDIT-
Oh, and Link runs alone... he doesn't have 5 other people with him talking all the time

Yeah, but I don't see how having a name for the mute character would make a difference...
And yes, Tidus talked, but Link doesn't have to... Zelda, Ganon, any other main characters (like there was Ruto and the other sages and such in OoT, and a few more important characters in various towns) still can... While town folk that say stuff like "OOOO LOOK AT THAT CYOOTE HAT U R WEARING!!" can just come up in text... Unless they feel like getting some random lady who is a decent voice-actor to say that line...
And I don't see how Link being the lone fighter makes a difference either...

Re: The new Zelda
Maybe they should make it so that they interupt Link just as he's about to speak
Ex. NPC 1: " What do you make out of this situation, Link?"
Link: "eh..." *interupted*
NPC 2: " Link? There's someone here to see you"
See how that works out? Here's another example
Ex. NPC 1: "Link, are you sure that you can handle the hordes that are coming?"
Link: " uh.... " *interupted again*
NPC 2: "Don't worry Link we are here to fight with you!"
It all works out, but they shouldnt have him try to talk all the time, just in some intantces (sp?) when he's just about to talk.

Because the other characters in the game are always saying his name, and it will be difficult to get the voice actors to say each name that people can come up with. You would have to have it to where you couldn't name the character yourself. Personally, I really don't like that thought... My character has been Alex since I was 5 years old and I am not about to change that.

..... D'OH!!
Hey hey I know, just use that program macs use to speak text...
So it'll be like
Voice actor: "Please, you must save us"Computer:"...Alex..."
I have an idea! How about the whole game just sticks to text

Too bad his name isn't Link, otherwise it would work
And Jeepnut's slave has the right idea... that's pretty much what I was trying to say

Re: The new Zelda
Voice acting or not, Link should NOT have his speach EVER represented by text or voice. Never.
I wouldn't everybody else with voice acting though. They don't necessarily HAVE to say his name. Never once in FFX (or X-2) did anyone say "Tidus," but it still worked.
They could do the same thing.
Or everybody who doesn't like "Link" could suck it up and live with it.
*shrugs and walks away*

Hey wait, you're right... I forgot that they never said Tidus because you COULD still rename him in FFX... You just couldn't name any of the other characters, and anytime his name was mentioned it was in text where it could just type out whatever the player put in...
SO IT COULD WORK LIKE THAT FOR ZELDA IT COULD WORK!

Re: The new Zelda
They did the exact same thing in Neverwinter Nights. While I don't want Link to speak, the NPC's could easily be given voice actors. It's not hard to write dialogue that conforms to that style.

I don't want any voices. I want the dialogue and voices to be just like that in Wind Waker.

Re: The new Zelda
Miyamoto doesnt want link to have a voice. But he didnt mention no voices at all.
A lot of game do no voice for the main character only. Jade Empire, GTA, KOTOR, etc.
