With a code. You say your sending an item to a friend, and it gives you a code to give to your friend, and when he enters the code on his game it'll give him the item. So it's not actually sending or giving somene something, its just getting a code from them that'll access the item in the game. It's like Pokémon. There's some fruit you can't get in your own game, you have to get it from other people. But, the fruit is really there, it's just locked up with a code. Just like Mew is really in all the games, you just need a GameShark code to access him, that's what the Nintendo representatives do, they just put a code into the game that unlocks Mew.

That site has tons of Universal Codes. Just check it out. They don't all the UC item codes because new ones are being found everyday. But just check it out if you want something NOW. I've used it a few times.

Crono, I got codes for any Blue items you don't have that I have and codes for the Toilet and the Stove. I didn't know which Stove you meant because there are 2. The Potbelly stove and the regular stove, so I got you the code for the regular stove. In return, I noticed you have something I don't have. The Blue Bench. Can I get that?
