Re: X-men 3: The Last Stand (Pre-impressions)
Also, what is up with Magneto just casually playing chess in a park following the 'last stand'?
Has the U.S. government, X-Men, and every other person on the planet suddenly pardoned and forgotten about everything he did prior to losing his powers? I mean, shouldn't he be imprisoned or something for all the destruction and death he caused?
I mean, at least bill the guy for ruining our Golden Gate Bridge!
Will someone at least search for him, sheesh!
And one of my friends said that Mystique will get her powers back because Magneto did which means that the 'cure' really isn't permanent. True? False?

Yeah I liked the part where Magneto moved the chess piece with his powers.

I hate to say this, but agree with you.
I mean the whole point of the movie seemed to be that Magneto was this giant threat and the US gov't was after him.
And somehow they let him escape from the island? when its been established the only way he could of got off is either by plane, which seems unlikely, or by boat.. again unlikely. And its not like people don't know what he looks like.
And I don't know, I think they left the "cure" open ended for a possible sequel.

I agree.

They could of held off with the Phoenix until the end of the movie and have her emerge at the end or something for a possible x4.
The way they did it seemed rushed and not in the spirit of x2. I mean she was a flaming bird at the end of x2. No flames anywhere here.

Re: X-men 3: The Last Stand (Pre-impressions)
no doubt they coulda done it differnetly and should of. but holding off the the end isnt leaving it out of this movie. its just putting in the movie a different way. probably a better way.
is there going to be an x4?
What will they call it? X-Men: The Stand After the Last Stand!

Re: X-men 3: The Last Stand (Pre-impressions)
See, to me, the death of Jean at the end of X2 was all good. She saved all their lives, and it came off as a tragic but heroic. The shadow of the bird flying over the lake at the end of X2, to me, was just a cliffhanger or surprise or just a little momento to all the comic fans that hey, maybe Jean is going to be back.
I don't think it was suggesting that the semi-focus of the plot of X3 would be around the Phoenix. Also, it would appear that Xavier is well aware that jean is still alive, but he never tries to stop scott from going out there.
Ian Mckellen and Patrick Stewart made those 3 films. They are both grade-A actors and they complimented each other nicely. But after X1 and X2 both having very similar story molds, I figured they'd maybe take the series in a different route. More government, less mutant.
It doesn't matter, we can all be geeks and argue over what we wanted to happen forever. I'm just going to read the comics, it's much more satisfying and fulfilling in the story department. Although, props to hollywood on choosing the actors for Magneto and Xavier, and having good special effects. The golden gate bridge part was absolutely awesome.

well i feel they had been showing signs of it all through X2. the fire in her eyes and such, as well as the firey bird over the lake. it wasnt a surprise or anyting, it was just that was where they were taking the story.
and the story very well shoulda been about it. its just done way way wrong by the people who did X3. it shoulda been done much different. but i feel it was much more then a little momento, because it was obvious from the start of X2 that that was where they were heading.

Actually having Xavier and Magneto have similar story molds make sense. They are the same people on different sides of a coin. I mean the difference is their end goal. Other than that they are not that much different.
I mean the only difference between the Brotherhood and the X-men is simply their leader's ideals.

Re: X-men 3: The Last Stand (Pre-impressions)
i'm going to tie up a few loose ends here
Gambit was to make an appearance but Josh Holloway who was offered the role, turned it down because of his schedule on LOST, so they took him out.
All the comments about Wolverine's personality... is really ignorant because Wolverine isn't the smash it up no conscience type of guy like... or even a fractio nof what HELL BOY displayed. If you read the Comics Wolverine has a heart and shows emotion more so then you think he would.
one thing that really urked me about the movie.
Psylocke... what the hell is that? Psylocke doesn't have camouflage powers.... she's not asian, and definitely doesn't have blue dyed hair... she's the sister of Captain Britain for crying out loud. Either make Milla Jovovich play her or leave her out of the movie.
Kid Omega was cool, i liked how he turned out.
Beast was almost 100% accurate and Kelsey Grammer performed exceptionally.
The next movie should definitely bring in Age of Apocalypse. With the 'CURE' and such, its a nice way to introduce Apocalypse' little storyline about drawing in mutants for his cause.
Overall out of a possible 10, I'd give X-men 3, a cold 6. Mostly for the action, and lack of character development...... oh god.. Psylocke... I hate to see you potrayed in that manner... uck...

Um, next time you tie up loose ends you should try and be a little more accurate:
1) I did read the comics, and I read them for much of Claremont's first legendary run and most of Jim Lee's attempted destruction of Claremont's accomplishment. I also read Weapon X and much of the original Wolverine series.
2) I never said Wolverine didn't have a heart. His relationship with Jubilee and his love for Jean Grey show this. But having a heart doesn't equal being a crybaby (by coparpison). By the end of Jackman's run as Wolverine he was portraying him as a "feeling bad? Lets talk!" guy. Its a shame too, because I thought Jackman started off so well in the first film. Wolverine also would never blubber like he did either time Jean died. Wolverine would either turn his grief into rage or simply have a single tear running down his stone face.
3) Hellboy had a heart, but he hid it through a tough exterior. He didn't really know how to express his feelings, but you still knew how he felt. Thats what Wolverine should have been: An sentient animal struggling to find his humanity.
If you want to disagree with me, thats fine, but don't be so ignorant as to paint others as such when you have no idea how much they have read.

Agreed, nd I thought Grammer was inspired casting. I just didn't like his body suit. It looked fake.

Like I said, I thought X3 should have been either the Sentinels or Apocalypse. It would have been very fresh.

I dont think that they can pull off any good way to make another. I mean so many characters are dead, to just bring them back somehow would upset many die-hard fans.
also (spoilers for anyone who didnt stay after the credits)
if the they did make another which they should not, prof. X would have to be played by someone else but with the same voice

I was thinking Josh Holloway would be a good Gambit...it is a shame he couldn't do it though.

I hated the look of Beast!! And his ambassador being.
I hoped it would be better when he started fighting, but that was boring too.

It was all the bad wire-fighting that killed me. That entire finale just came off as half-assed and cheaply done.
Example: Pheonix's aura is a giant flaming bird (hence PHEONIX). That would have been draatic and incredibly impressive on film. Instead we got cheesy backlighting. El Cheapo. I don't care that they changed the origins of the Pheonix, because that would have meant about 3 hours of backstory and introducing the Shi'Ar, The Eternals, maybe even the Kree and Skrulls and the Blue Area of the Moon. This would take far too long and completely take the audience away from the core story. What I do care about is how poorly they presented a character (at the end) who was integral to the entire movie.
