They were tied in votes. In the event of a tie it is decided who lives and who dies by the flip of a coin, not to kill both of them. The Prof just got lucky. As for where he is, I have no idea.

Though I wonder more and more whether any of us know if we're crazy. On the other hand, two other people got killed besides the vote, so there must be some kind of coalition of Crazies that know who they are.
