Re: Asian death toll reaches 44,000
animals are smart... people aren't
in the movie deep impact, when the big tsunami is coming at new york city, birds flew away, and the water receeded before the wave hit.... same thing happened in indonesia except people stayed because they thought it looked cool....
anyone who saw that movie should know when to run away, and it isn't after you get waist deep in water!

Re: Asian death toll reaches 44,000
celebrations for new years day was canceled last night...fireworks...lights....parties....were all called off in Malaysia. Prayers were held by mosques and temples throughout the night. Its a really sad way to usher in 2005.

Re: Asian death toll reaches 44,000
Yeah that had to suck, I can't believe the president is taking money out of the DOD defense fund, I can understand he wants to make the rest of the world like the us again, However giving 350 million, WTF ? we could have given 150 million, I understand it's a terrible thing that happened but just beating all the rest of the countries in the race to say "Top this" actually pisses me off about bush..

I agree. We already fund nearly 60% of worldwide humanitarian relief. It is time the kindest world power in history gets some credit. And I'll await bashing...

You're not supposed to give charity for credit...

Re: Asian death toll reaches 44,000
Canada gave 40 million, so USA's 350 million is great, considering they have 10 times the population as Canada.

What does population have to do with anything? The US pitches billions of dollars away on things all the time. Albeit, some "investments" like the War In Iraq are our own fault, we give tons of relief money away yearly.

Re: Asian death toll reaches 44,000
*cough*
Why don't we feel glad that the victims are receiving tons of support and care from many countries, and not fret about how much is coming from each country and why?
Just seems kind of... I don't know... petty...
*shrugs and walks away*

All I did was compare America's donation to Canada's via population. Based on the population of the two counties, America's makes sense.
That's all I said man.

Re: Asian death toll reaches 44,000
Hahaha, calm down dude, I didn't mean to start anything. Sometimes though, it feels like people expect too much from the United States, even though we are the leading power behind basically every relief fund and donation ever set up.....

Re: Asian death toll reaches 44,000
It doesn't have everything to do with the money the government gives. Private companies and programs give huge amounts of money to these relief operations, and I think that is the way it should be. American people are very giving (I believe amazon.com got over 3 million dollars in a few hours through their website of private donations), and people should be allowed to give freely and let that money be used instead of a lot more being taxed out. I'm not saying the government shouldn't give anything, but it should be a minor amount compared to the contributions of the people.

Re: Asian death toll reaches 44,000
I agree with you blackmane, you folks say that because of population we should give more, No, I don't agree.. Not out problem.. However, I do think the gov't should give some IE 100 million as a sorry you didn't run away from the big tidal wave type deal, and the rest should come from donations like the salvation army in the us does for homless people.. My local bank raised 168k in 2 months. So I mean if the entire us does it IT CAN BE DONE in a matter of hours. But as for not getting any credit because of it.. Being petty and what all... YOU GUYS BITCH BECAUSE WE DIDN'T GIVE ENOUGH NOW THERE GONNA BITCH BECAUSE WE DID ? WTF WE CANT WIN SO I SAY WE SHOULD STOP NOW AND QUIT WHILE WERE STILL BEHIND.
[edit] not saying you guys as in YOU guys but as in the nations as a whole. Srry.. No offense to anyone at GT unless you have a political agenda in your country of origion
