Aye, aye, I have seen it. It is pretty damn good. I thought it'd be a nice little movie with lots of action... but I was wrong, this is a movie that turned out to be 2 hours and 30 minutes long, with enough action to shake at anything modern today. This is a great movie, and definitely yields a good 5/5 for me. I loved every part, and there was definitely advertising-- Ski doos, Astin Martins, etc.

But definitely go see it if Perfect Stu hasn't pushed you enough.

I saw the movie yesterday. It wasn't that bad. I really liked it at first. I thought that the beginning scene was good; better than most. And I was really glad that during the credits, instead of having the usual crap with all the shadow women dancing, it showed James Bond being tortured by North Koreans. The theme song wasn't bad, either. Hell, it was stellar by Bong standards. All this made me get past that stupid opening in which there was a facsimile of the bullet going through the scope of the man's rifle (things like that shouldn't be changed). But, in this movie, the cons outnumber the pros by far. There were more annoying one-liners in this one than in all of the other Bond films combined - "My name's Mr. Kill." "Now there's a name to die for." The action scenes were boring, crammed with computer-generated effects, and, worst of all, very plentiful. The plot was absolutely ridiculous. Not in a goofy, campy way - just absurd. And the worst part of the movie was that Lee Tamahori tried to make it just like "Charlie's Angels" or "XXX". James Bond movies used to be the classiest action films. All the other action films were supposed to steal pages from their books. But I guess that's changed now. Nothing but slow motion effects and loads of explosions.

I figured that James Bond would have a different personality in "Die Another Day."One would assume that spending 14 months being tortured in a Korean hell would change a person completely. But that doesn't seem to be the case here: Once Bond gets out, he shaves his beard, somehow cuts his hair, and then it's back to sex and shaken Vodka Martinis. Though one thing that I realized while watching this was that I have completely accepted Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. He plays the role well, and is probably my second favorite Bond. He's like a nice mixture of Sean Connery's suave Bond, Timothy Dalton's edgy Bond, and Roger Moore's ridiculous, over-the-top Bond. I hope he stays for a fifth movie.

Since everyone's giving out numbers, I guess I'll do the same. Maybe 2.5/5. I don't know. I thought that it was a pretty fun Summer movie. Oh wait, it isn't Summer time. Meh.

Steven Segal.....yuck!! His pictures are ok...but the thing I really hate about Steven Segal movies is that he goes though most of them without being touched or really hurt by anyone,.....that pisses me off....in underseige 2 he got shot and does that stop him from whooping everyone's a$$?? Nope ......he fights the bad guy and hardly gets touched....keep in mind he was shot in the shoulder.

The best he role he played was in Executive Descion..where he dies before he gets on the plane.

It's not that I don't like him....I don't like the role he protraits........I just can't picture a guy going though a whole army and not get beaten bad at some point in time.....it's just not buyable.

Well, i don't know if it was in Above the law, or Out for Justice, He gets tortured by cops, who are Drug Dealers. They Then Poison him. But then he breaks, the cop's Knee, cracks his Arm, Beats up the other guys. I really like his movies, he acts really good in it. It's also funny when he beats up the guy, without even touched or looking.

But he does takes martial art.

Steven Seagal is a highly skilled Aikido practitioner (so good that he actually opened a dojo in Japan and taught for a while). I wouldn't say that he acts, though. That's just stretching the definition of the word.

Back on topic:

Pierce Brosnan as Bond is good. Halle Berry as the sidekick/Bond girl is good. The villain is not so good.

Actually, let me rephrase that.

*SPOILER ALERT!!!*

Will Yun Lee made a pretty good villain. And he does play the main villain...for a few minutes. Then the villain has his gene therapy thing and turns into yet another snooty European guy. Will Yun Lee was edgy, memorable. He could clearly handle the part (his "find me another anger management counselor" was not only the villain's best line, it was also delivered well). The guy who plays the villain after gene therapy just couldn't stand out. He was always eclipsed by the action or special effects going on around him. He even gets upstaged when there's a good looking woman nearby. I almost never found myself really watching him the way I paid attention to what Pierce Brosnan or Halle Berry were doing.

Besides, Will Yun Lee is a Tae Kwon Do expert. I like Tae Kwon Do experts.

The plot was ho hum. I actually liked the trend of the last few Bond movies in which the villain doesn't want world domination but something still very potent (like absolute control of the media). It made the plot somewhat more believable. Now, we're back to taking over the world. And the tools that the villain plans to use are a satellite that rains destruction down from above (been there, done that) and a glove that electrocutes people (yawn). Whatever happened to guided torpedos that chew through a ship or sending a nuclear warhead through an oil pipeline?

I'm of two minds about Bond's car. On the one hand, it's very stylish and used very well. On the other hand, I'm not a big fan of its invisibility. Previous cars have always had tricks that are more or less possible today (self destruction, remote control, inbuilt rockets etc.). Invisibility is not possible today and might not be for several more decades. It just spoiled my suspension of disbelief a bit.

The opening was fine (the exploding diamonds was especially satisfying), and the title sequence was good, too. I hated the theme, though. Bond themes aren't supposed to be pop songs with strong beats.

This is not to say that it was a bad movie. It entertained me well enough. The sword fights (ok, one is technically a sword and knife fight) were good. The car battle was also good (though I have to wonder about flipping a car with the ejection seat). The women were fun to look at, and as someone else has mentioned, they can act. And the introduction to gadgets with Q was brilliant.

Overall, though, there are too many problems with the movie for me to give it a perfect rating. I still rate The World Is Not Enough as the best of the recent Bond movies as it doesn't have any of the problems mentioned above (although to be fair, it has Denise Richards). Still worth $7.50 to see on the big screen, though.

Rating out of 5:

P.S. It's good to know that I can still write long posts.

See what I mean..tortured by cops and yet he breaks free and is able to beat evryone without getting touched.
*sigh* On top of that he's been posioned .......bah....... I'm not talking about the guy's skill at the arts......he's probadly very talented ......all I'm saying is that too make his movies a little more buyable.....have him get his A$$ wooped ....and I'm not talking captured I'm talking hand to hand.....either one on one or many to one.
