Okay, let me explain this clearly for you guys since some of you seem to have misunderstood what's going on.

We members of PVG often get into debates. There isn't anything formal about it. It just happens. When we disagree, we tell each other so and then start discussing our different opinions until we're satisfied that we understand each other even if we still don't necessarily agree with each other. These debates don't arise because we are out trying to prove our intellectualy superiority. They never have. We just like debating because we think it's fun and it makes us think.

Two weeks ago, we decided to issue a challenge to GT for a debate in the same spirit. That thread can be found here

Be sure to read the entire thing so that you know what's going on, but in the meantime, I'm going to point out this particular quote.

Ok, Xantar and I have thought of the idea to make all of our members think, and what better way to make someone think? A Debate!
So you see, we never intended to prove our superiority in any way. There was some incidental posturing, but it was all in good fun just like my comments in this thread were and just as I assume Joeiss' comments were (although, Joeiss, you really should come up with something new. I've been hearing homosexual jokes in this forum for years now).

So let me sum up again. We like debating and we decided to ask some members of GT if they would like to join a competition for debate's sake as well. Now ask yourself why we chose GT of all places. If we just wanted to stroke our egos, we could have gone after XBA or TeamXbox or heck just challenge the entire IGN boards. But we didn't. We wanted a good debate against people whom we knew would put up a fight and maybe even win. Because that's the kind of debate you learn and grow from. And we thought the GT members could provide just that very debate.

Well, as it turned out, some GT members were interested in such a debate with us. Four of them, to be exact (I'm not including BreakABone because...well, just read the thread). So the teams having been drawn up, we realized that we hadn't ironed out all the kinks in the debate rules yet. So we postponed the date to the 20th (tomorrow). Nobody, and I mean nobody, raised any objections whatsoever. Read the thread I linked to if you don't believe me. Therefore, we thought that the GT members had agreed to meet with us in a debate tomorrow.

Yesterday, I made this thread containing a little boasting in good fun and a clearer explanation of how the debate was going to work. None of it was new. It's all there in the old thread. I just wanted to remind the GT members that they would have an opportunity to decide some of what the debate would be about.

So let's go over your concerns again.

Have we challenged GT to a pointless exercise so that we could stoke our egos? No. I have made it abundantly clear that we wanted to do this for debate's own sake, and apparently so did the members of the GT team.

Have we just gone out looking for a rival and then declared ourselves the winner when we couldn't find one? No. We did find an opponent, and it appeared to us that we were all agreed on the time when it would happen. That time is coming and we find that nobody seems to even remember the debate and nobody is even going to say something like "On second thought, we're going to back out. We're just not interested." Instead, we get nothing for a reply from any of the members of the GT debate team. This is not only bad form, it could be interpreted as an admission of defeat by some people (not me. I was just joking).

Now if the GT members would like us to think something different, it's not all that hard to convince us.

After reading the ignorance in this thread, I am reminded why I don't post here at GT that often anymore.

Xantar. I wasn't joking.

Anyways.......................... I am not part of the debate team, but here is a topic that you can use. And of course, these won't be like my previous 2.

Topic 1 : A ten year old kid sees American soldiers fighting against the Taliban in Afghanistan. The Taliban are America's enemy. The kid has enemies too, the bullies at his school. The ten year old decides to eliminate the threat of bullies at his school. The next day, he brings in his father's hand gun to school and shoots eight of his peers. Four die, two are in critical condition, and two were only knicked in their arms. The two kids that are in critical condition were not bullies, but just got in the way.

Now, is this kids actions justified? He sees these American soldiers proclaimed as heros for killing Taliban soldiers. This kid wants to be a hero himself, and in his mind he is now one.

1: My sig is from WarCraft III.

2: Xantar, you tell you debate because it's fun, but you've always brought this this as a match or a challenge. Doesn't sound very fun to me.

3: yeah this forum is ignorant, but don't say it because they'll bash you.

4: if only I'd live in the same time zone as you I'd join, but I'm never online when you Americans do your thing.

The kid's a crazy psycho and should be murdered or put into one of those kid jails where the kid will end up being even more psychotic and will eventually kill more people or kill himself. All kids hear that killing is wrong all the time, thye understand the difference between war and kids at their school.

The American soldiers can kill Taliban "soldiers" because they're crazy camel-****ing morons who won't do anything in life except plan how to drive more planes into America or kill themself for Allah.

Oh, so you mean you were actually calling me gay? Erm, isn't that flaming? Not that I care because I've gotten used to it by now, but still, I expect better of you.

Well, let's try an example. You must have seen some soccer matches. Not just professional ones but also matches in a backyard where the goal is the space between a pair of shoes on the ground or something. In fact, you've probably participated in one.

In all those matches, have you never seen someone saying "We're the greatest. We will rock you" (or whatever the equivalent is in Dutch) before the match. I'll bet you have.

I'll also bet you've heard that kind of thing from friends who mean absolutely no offense. It's just smack talk that people do all in the fun of a competitive spirit. You've probably seen soccer matches where people throw that kind of stuff aroud and yet they are just out there to have fun and get a little exercise. I'm sorry if you didn't see it that way, but I honestly thought it was pretty clear. A little confident talk is part of the game.

Debates are pointless, especially if you are argueing a point for somthing you don't agree with... after a while most debates turn into pointless fights about things off subject... well, those are the debates I'm in...

-end of pointless post-

You and your pointless arguments...

Just watch this thread turn into a debate over debates.

This topic won't turn into a debate over debates... it will turn into a debate over if this is or is not a debate over debates.

*gets headache*

I really must have been away from these forums for a LONG time.

Because I remember Xantar as one of the moderators of this forum. And back then, he seemed like a loyal patron (not that his visiting and hanging out at other forums somehow dilutes his loyalty here) and a nerving defender of this site.

What I see now is a patron of another site coming to GT to stir up controversy (albeit a friendly one). What happened? And what the hell is PVG?

And on a personal note, I think debates between two forums are laborious at best. Now an inter-forum feuding and flaming, you got my number with that one!
