So amidst all the horrible media hype, was this storm:

about average
worse than expected
better than expected

I'm not trying to minimize it either, it is evident there is a ton of property damage.

I'd say it was about average. I guess to an extent what made in "under-whelming" for some is that the big cities (Philly, NYC, etc) were mainly unscathed, but many small towns are still struggling with flooding. One example is Bennington, Vermont where I went to college. They got destroyed and that was even after the storm was downgraded and everything. So, maybe the bigger populations were spared, but they've estimated $7 Billon worth of damage I believe.
