Re: Greatest Guitarist of All Time?
I voted Jimmy Page, but more for his performance on the BBC Sessions CD, which is mind numbingly superb. I think Hendrix gets too much attention and often gets votes just because thats what people think they should say.
Hendrix is amazing, but Jimmy Page was so good people thought he made a deal with the devil to get his talent.
The best right now? The lead guitarist from Slayer. I just started getting into them and the sheer speed and technical prowess of his work will make you're jaw drop. Artistically he's not that great, but for technical ability he is hands down the best.

Just download "Heartbreaker" from the "How the West Was Won" Cds.... Holy moly, Page truly outdoes himself there.

Re: Greatest Guitarist of All Time?
I've listened really closely to a few LZ songs lately, and Page seemed to be the better guitarist and Hendrix more the guitar freak

Other:
Eric Johnson.
Joe Satriani works too, as does Steve Vai.

Re: Greatest Guitarist of All Time?
Is this an old thread?
Anyway, my vote is Stevie Ray Vaughan. Just imagine what he'd be doing if he still lived. Though, I do love Page, and if I didn't love blues so much and have a soft spot for the Texan guitarist, I'd nod to Page.

Re: Greatest Guitarist of All Time?
I would like to nominate: Santana.
Also, I like Paul Simon but I don't rhink he's a real guitar player.

The bow solo on "Dazed and Confused" is even better, IMO.
