Hmm.. imo that isn't even possible... it's like saying right after OoT was released that a game that isn't even in the same genre will "own" it. Just too damn good to be "owned"...
If it's true, then great... but Matt is good for spewing BS and overhyping games.

Not reliable? Umm... come again? You really don't know too much about the way things work do you?
IGNcube editors saw Mario Sunshine before SpaceWorld, months before. They are the ones responsible for having Ice Climbers in Super Smash Bros. Melee. They have seen Thornado footage, which was back in the day. And guess what? They've seen games we don't know are in development.
If you're a developer and want an opinion on your game, you go to people like Matt. They play and review every Gamecube game out on the market. They hear the fans criticism constantly. They know what people like and don't like. They get to play these games when we get an announcement.
Matt is very reliable, and he does this stuff all the time. Tiny little hints of things to come, tells you things they don't report. Matt is reliable, because he's without a doubt, the top Gamecube editor in the business. It's the way things work in the business, you call a PR representetive, they tell you what's going on, a lot of times stuff you can't publish yet because it's not official, like with Peter Main's retirement. Some other stuff isn't official, so they never publish it. Like with Retro's president taking company money to pay for prostitutes and stuff like that, and how Retro's management is entirely responsible for them not getting games done on time, but the rest of the team is actually quite talented.
Whether all this stuff actually happens or not in not known. Nothing is official, games get canceled and changed, plans change. But he's not pulling stuff out of his ass here, it's what he has heard, or part of what he has heard.

They're similar enough. They're both FPS in my world, adventure game or not. Not like puzzle vs. fighting here, they are similar.
And he has played for at least 45 minutes, so his opinion is respectable, whether we agree with it once it's out or not. It's his opinion on the game, not a fact like Mr. Banana ownz j00!

For this type of game? Hell no. Super Metroid was only like 7 hours. Quake only takes a couple.
It won't be long by any means, but I don't think it'll be that short. It's a FPS with some adventure aspects, it's not supposed to take 60 hours.

Think of a lot of other first person shooters... like Goldeneye... it doesn't take very long to beat at all... but then the big fun of it is playing missions over and over for the fun of it or to get cheats and such... and on multiple difficulty levels... and then of course the multiplayer... And.... some other stuff
Maybe Metroid will be like that... *shrugs*

Metroid isn't a first person shooter is it???
I thought itwas a first person adventure... that means it can't be like Goldeneye.
if it is like goldeneye, and it is 7 hours (if acumulated time is based off of cheat times) this is a pretty long game... but if it's a FPA like methinks, 7 hours may not be long.

I havn't been paying close attention to metroid, so don't bug me about it if I get some info wrong
And for most people goldeneye may have been the multiplayer, but I rarely got a chance to play it and I still had a ton of fun playing the same levels over and over again and just screw around with invincibility, all weapons, and infinite ammo... and some of the other stuff too...
But still, what gekko said... even if it doesn't have multiplayer, metroid games have never been all that long in the first place...
even though the only other metroid game I've played was Super Metroid... and I didn't beat it...

7 hours? That's kinda a long time if you play it at once, but not really.

Well, the original Metroid can be beaten in less than two and a half hours, remember. Nobody managed that the first time around, of course, but it's possible. I want to know if that 7 hours number means 7 hours the first time through (in which case it easily outlasts the other games) or if it's more like the 2.5 hours time for the other games.
In any case, there will probably be lots of power ups and missiles and the like to pick up, so you can always play the game through again to pick them up. That's the adventure aspect of the game, I suppose.

Usually when people release about how long it will take most people to beat the game, they mean the first time through... like RE will take most people around 10 hours to beat the first time through... but I've beaten it in 2 hours and 8 minutes, and gekko's beaten it in just under 2 hours

I beat Super Metroid the first time in about 9 hours. I took my time. The second time I beat it in 2.5 hours.
But if 7 hours is the time that it takes to beat the game as fast as possible, it's great. If it's the first playtime, it's poor...
When is it going to be released again??
What are you talking about Shooter?

Was the 9 hours for super metroid good? Cuz how can 2 hours make the difference between good and poor?

Well, Super Metroid WAS a short game. This one would be even shorter.
