One could argue that the new Batman movie was "less" of a comic book movie because it felt like a 'regular movie' who had a main character that happened to be Batman. I agree though...the "ohhhh" and the "awww" is starting to ware off in some of these comic book films.

I also think the creative end of comic book movies are starting to recognize more of a broad area of comics, and not just the flashy, 90's era tights and explosions comics. Comics have been much more realistic and though provoking since the 2000's, and the movies are finally starting to catch up to it.

That's a perfectly acceptable evolution, but if you removed the Batman/Joker dualism from the Dark Knight it would hardly qualify as a "comic" movie in terms of cinematic elements. And, one could possibly argue in terms of plot as well.
