But you have to admit that the public at large probably had never heard of him. And more than one person I know said, "Well....ok, he's tall, but I don't know if he'll actually be able to pull off Bond..."

Similarly, unless you've heard of Daniel Craig and seen him somewhere before, you really can't judge whether he'll be a good James Bond. The one person who says he has seen him (The Strangler) thinks he'll be good. Everybody else is just judging him by his looks which, in my opinion, is pretty silly. I personally didn't think Sean Connery was very handsome, but it didn't matter.

Let the man make his Bond movie and then we'll judge whether he's right for the role.

By the way, I'm sure that all the reasons given for discluding Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor and Eric Bana are absolute hogwash. But they had to say something, and they couldn't just give the real reason. And I'll bet the reason they chose Daniel Craig was very simple: most people haven't heard of him. Just like the other Bond actors. Hugh Jackman is a great actor, but if you cast him as Bond, a lot of people in the audience would be seeing Wolverine in a tuxedo instead of just James Bond. Stupid but true. It's the same thing with the others.

And nobody had, meaning that figuratively instead of literally. Just like I can say, "Nobody's ever heard of Daniel Craig." Of course somebody has somewhere, but I didn't mean literally no human being on this planet ever heard of him. It's called idiom. I'm sure you must have understood that much, so I'll stop explaining the English language to you now.

Now if I'd found hundreds of people who heard of Pierce Brosnan before 1995 instead of a few people on an internet message board dedicated to pop entertainment, I'd have a lot of egg on my face. But anyway, moving on...

Remington Steele was a big hit though, a main show in the network lineups.....

It was on before i was born and ive know about it ( and i dont consider myself considerably knowledgeable about pop culture).

Actually, Remington Steele was such a hit that Brosnan was supposed to be Bond before Timothy Dalton, but had signed a long term contract with the network for more seasons of Steele.

I know that my parent;s generation were well aware of Brosnan before Bond and even I was. C'mon Xanny, you got caught and are trying to skillfully talk your way out of it. Just admit it

Its actually funny that this has become a big "gotcha" game, but I'm having a wonderful time with it.

Man, I do not approve.

And whatever happened to Jude Law? I would have preferred him.

Ewan McGregor would've been my first choice.

I think Jude Law is a little too slight for the role, but I do think his acting chops would be up to it. I LOVED him in I Heart Huckabees. Bond needs to be suave and debonair, but he also needs that rugged athletic side to him.

Jude Law just as Bond would give any validity to the "judo chops".

Seeing him as the crazy guy in The Jacket doesn't count as me seeing him? :<

Maybe if I share my opinion!... Ummm... I thought he played... a good crazy guy... *nod*...

On a side note, I heard a little snippet from a recent interview with Pierce Brosnan where he said something like he was a bit angry about the whole ordeal because he was "Just starting to get the hang of it"...

But I could have sworn there had been talk for a quite awhile now that he was going to stop doing Bond movies... Like by his own decision? o.O *scratches head* Maybe I'm just crazy...

No really, I'm not trying to wrangle out of anything. I said what I meant to say. Stu is giving me a hard time because that's what he does, and that's all in good fun.

But if Remington Steele was as popular as you say, then I concede the point. I never heard of it myself, but then again, I wasn't really paying much attention to TV during the 80s. Except for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, of course.

Well, for all I knew, you just pulled his picture off Google. But ok, good on you.

I saw the thing about Pierce Brosnan saying he was angry with the producers, too. I really think it's too bad because I thought Die Another Day was a pretty weak way to end your run. I remember that Brosnan had said it would be his last movie, but maybe he decided he wanted to try for a fifth for some reason. I guess we'll never know the full story (until some journalist decides to delve into its heart and produce a book), but Brosnan is now saying he'll tell everything in an interview with Playboy.

Yeah, I know. I was shocked to find out that Playboy had stuff other than nude pics, too.

The 37-year-old Craig is almost a decade older than what the filmmakers had stated they were looking for in a new James Bond.
OMFG, why would they pick him if he didn't meet the criteria??!111?

Pierce Brosnan is the only 007 I'll support, everyone fight the filmmakers and boycott this film.

Which Bond made the most Bond movies?

PS That picture that Teuthidia posted makes him look good as Bond. Kind of reminds me of the older ones...

SUPER PS Nice siggy Teuthidia. Oh American Psycho, what sex scenes you had, followed by murder.
