Q: You mentioned Nintendo Revolution will have a totally new interface, a completely different look for gamers. Can you elaborate?
A: The new interface will allow some new forms of innovation. Already, you're seeing changes in Nintendo DS, which has a microphone, input pen, and touch screen. We have a number of candidates for a new interface but are not ready to reveal them. All I can say right now is that whatever we choose will be intuitive and easy to use for everyone

Q: Well, you showed several new games that used voice commands. Is that one of your candidates?
A: It certainly makes a game better to have voice commands, because it can alter how the game is played. But the fact of the matter is, to realize voice commands, all you have to do is install a microphone. We realize a few of our competitors are already thinking of following us on this, so it will not be a defining feature of the new console. We may or may not use the microphone in the new [Nintendo Revolution] interface.

Q: When will you get Revolution development kits out to game creators?
A: Development kits are already out there, depending on which stage you're talking about. All I can say right now is "in the near-future" for the basis platform information they will need to get started on games.

This is a huge relief for me.. I thought It was going to be just a new controller (ie: touchpad, gyros, whatever) and since they havent' even finalized the input device, the revolutionary part may infact be a revolution

Voice communications revolutionary? Unless they shove it down each developers throat requiring it, ala Microsoft and maybe Sony forcing each game to be online in some way, it doesnt feel as revolutionary but who knows. Maybe Nintendo will live up to the hype it made with their codename

So you're saying that because they haven't finalized the input device, it can't be the revolution? I don't know. It doesn't sound like any one thing is the revolution, rather a combination of things.

If that was in response to me, I was just going off what I just read. Things change between now and it debut'ing at E3 or launching

it was in response to me, but probably based off what I said, not what the article said.

I said "since they havent' even finalized the input device..."

the article said: "We have a number of candidates for a new interface but are not ready to reveal them..."

meaning they haven't decided what the input device will be, so I should have said "since they haven't even decided on an input device..."

I agree that not just one thing is revolutionary

but the MAIN thing obviously isn't the controller, which makes me happy,

By requiring games to be online, all a developer has to do is make it recognize your buddy list. That's why Fable says "live enabled". Requiring online isn't going to be that big of a deal.
