I mean, I'll pick up my Cube without a second thought because I know even if I did somehow drop it, it would most likely survive. I wouldn't be as comfortable moving around a PS2 because it lacks the same durability.
Not that portability is a huge concern of mine. But, just for the sake of arguement...
|
the new one is now the current one. so all talks about ps2 should be of that model. unless refered to as 'old ps2'.
and durabiltiy depends on how you look at it. the new ps2 i'm pretty positive is more durable then the old. everything feels solid in it. but the old model was fine for durability unless your a moron who drops a weight directly on the center of it.
my old PS2 fell many times and worked fine. it went thro daily its wear and tear with no probs.
the tests are absolutly pointless cuz none would EVER happen. Its obvious based on design the cube would survive more. its cube shape gives it less of a surface area, and the walls holding that top serface later up are closer together given it much more support. the old model PS2 had a giant flat layer of thin pastic with no real support. dropping a weight right ontop of it obviously, bends that plastic in and probably cracked the board inside of it. was there any question of why they started with that test? you may be saying that the Xbox has that large serface area too. However it has many bumps and ridges in it that add more support because it wont bend as easily as a flat smooth piece.
now of course im pretty sure a weight droped dead center on the new ps2 would also break it.
but i dont see how durability in this area hurts any of them? unless by portability you actually mean putting it under the car and running it over back and forth............... Which oddly enough i bet the new PS2 would survive and the xbox and gc wouldnt. lol

Re: The real test of strength
The tests, I thought, were unrealistic. They should have dropped them repeatedly from three or so feet.
Also, they should test to see what happens when a dog tries to eat one.

or slamming the controller into it. or giving it a swift kick with a boot.
and lets not forget the accidental spill of beer on the console test.

Re: The real test of strength
Jeez, you guys are taking these tests as some big scientific thing. It was just some "out of the world" stress tests which are meant to be fun not fought about on forums.

yes indeed. but forums on the other hand, are designed for people to bicker back and forth. no one would discuss anything if everyone had the exact same thought

Or what happens when a rabbit chews on the cords of the controllers and the unit itself. I hate rabbits.

Re: The real test of strength
Null, the reason why we talk about the old PS2 is that it was shown in the movie. I'd like to see them throw around the new PS2.
We wrecked a N64 by spoiling lemonade on it. A year later we took it apart, cleaned it and made it work. (y) I posted pics about that here.

no, talks were of current ps2 outside that movie. i had already mentioned that movie was old. movie had nothing to do with portability, which is what was being discussed.

Re: The real test of strength
I remember when me, duffman, ominub and others hit an N64 cartridge (I think the Sub zero MK game), it worked if I remember right. Then we stuck BattleTanks in the freezer, forgot about it for a few hours then took it out and it still worked. 'twas crazy but nice.
