Default Installing RAM.

I was bored today, so I decided to take apart my old computer just mainly for fun, and possibly learn a few things along the way. I got the cover off, and I saw the two 64mb sticks of Ram(It's got 128 MB's). I took them out and looked at other various parts of the computer, but when I stuck the Ram back and tried to turn the computer back on, it keeps beeping every 5 seconds. Im not sure why, I put the RAM back in...Is there some special way your suppoused to insert RAM into the slots? I opened the latch things, and stuck it in nice and tight. Also, would it do me any good to put the 128 MB's RAM into my new computer to make it so it has 640MB's RAM?
