The closest your probably going to get to 2 on 2 battles from Nintendo might be a LAN setup on Colloseum. If that does happen, then just wait for GameSpy to release the software to tunnel it online.

My friend also seems to think that because when I talked to the person that checks my pokemon, he said I've seen and caught 386 on a Nationwide basis. I've enclosed 2 images from the ROM just because I feel like it.
