Default Of all the things from the 80's to make a comeback...

Remember the Garbage Pail Kids, everybody? That's what's making a comeback. Got the news from this guy at toonzone.net who goes by the name of Mojo Jojo. Here's the skinny:

NEW YORK -- Long before "South Park" or "Beavis and Butthead" were entertaining kids with lowbrow toilet humor there were the "Garbage Pail Kids." Now, the grandfather of gross-out is making a comeback.

After being off the market for 15 years, a new series of the hugely successful stickers that entertained children in the mid-1980s with depictions of bodily functions and other unsavory concepts will be released in August by The Topps Co.

The Garbage Pail Kids collecting phenomenon of the 1980s spawned 15 sold-out series. It's making its return via the Garbage Pail Kids #16 bubble gum and stickers set which is scheduled to reach store shelves Aug. 20.

Garbage Pail Kids still maintain a cult following, with several dedicated fan Web sites and an active trade on Internet auction sites.

But will the stickers, which originally were conceived as a spoof of early-1980s it-toy, The Cabbage Patch Kids, find an audience among kids raised on the hyper-potty-humored "Jackass" and the sophomoric "Sponge Bob Square Pants?"

Topps thinks so. Chairman Arthur Shorin says gross-out has always been of interest to children. He said the series really struck a funny bone in the 1980s and Topps expects kids will still enjoy them.

Set No. 16 will feature a mixture of images from the unpublished "Lost 16th Series" in tandem with new works from the original creative team of Jay Lynch, John Pound and Tom Bunk. The set will contain 80 regular/paper stickers, 50 foil stickers and 60 small rectangular stickers that will wrap around pieces of gum.

Each pack will contain three basic paper stickers, one foil sticker and four pieces of green Tutti-Frutti gum wrapped by the aforementioned sticker.

In every pack collectors will find a game card that will provide the opportunity to mail-in the card for random drawings of original artwork, uncut sheets, sets, complete sets of GPK #16 and sets of puzzle cards.

MY COMMENT: Why THEM???!!! Why the Garbage Pail Kids???!!! I hated those damn things! Now they have to make a comeback in the new millennium? I'll take either South Park or Beavis and Butt-head over the Garbage Pail Kids any day.

By the way, did anybody ever see that movie?
