SPAM comes in many forms
Before I begin I would like to say that I'm not only talking about GT, but about all message boards.
SPAM is not only flooding with posts, but also responding to a topic with a post that has no value. A post that has no opinion, no facts, no humor, or no information. For example, posts that just state, "I agree," "That sounds cool," or "LOL." If you agree with a post, tell us why you agree with it, and if you think something's funny, support your "lol" with a comment, or something that pertains to the thread.
A post that has no value is more of a waste of time then anything else. Not only does it take longer to download a page, but it also takes up space, and forces us to have multiple pages of useless messages.
The post count creates half of the SPAM, but at the same time a forum depends on the post count to keep visitors coming frequently. Post counts are kind of like women. You can't live with them, and you definetly can't live without them. So how can we solve this problem?
dblns may be the solution to this question. If we stress the importance of posting intelligent messages, the frequency of the # of posts will stay the same, and there will also be more effort to make intelligent threads and responses. The new dblns system is great, but I think it would be in the best interest of this site to make good responses recieve more points.
