Default Sony axing 60Gb PS3 after July = No Price Cut

US consumers forced into buying new 80Gb model - effectively there's been no price cut

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed with CVG that the 60Gb PS3 model is being phased out in the States, leaving the new 80Gb model as the only option for punters over the pond.

According to SCEE, the 60Gb model won't be available after July in the US, with reports stating SCEA cut the price to get rid of remaining stock.

SCEA company confirmed on Monday that it was slashing $100 off the price of the 60Gb model to $499, and that the 80Gb model will launch at the start of August at $599 - and come bundled with MotorStorm - the original cost of the 60Gb model.

Effectively then, there's no price cut - just better value for money.

In related news, SCEE has made its expected European PS3 announcement - 425 quid for a starter pack containing 60Gb PS3, two first-party games and two SixAxis controllers. The starter pack hits the UK on July 18.

Wah? How does this make sense?
