The Purse
Is it just me or is anyone else not satisfied with the GameCube so far? I mean, there's got to be a reason why they are third overall in the sales, and why Sega Sports' football game won't be released on it. Just look at it's library and compare it to everyone else's. No comparison. And before anyone says, more quality games are on GC, I say there's not that much variety. The more you put out, the more likely you are to get something different.
But a major thing to me was when they were about to come out. They actually had many(!) believeing that there would be no delays. Anyone else remember that? That's like minimum-wage salary parents promising their 4 children that they'll go to Disneyland every year. It is just impossible. People's ideas change, and corrections of major projects almost always come at the end.
But the biggest thing to me is that Zelda thing. All this time later, I still can't get over it. They came out with something so jaw-dropping. Then they shocked the world with that Spaceworld unveiling. WTF was that? I still remember some saying that this was the original vision, try it out first. Pure Crap. I'm sure this why they are where they are now and make most of their money from the Gameboy. The customer is always right. I mean, if that's the way it was going to be, fine. But don't get everyone's hopes up just to destroy them. It may be his vision, but it is the gamer's money. And that is the point of business, isn't it? To make money.
It's just a shame to me that is eavch successive generation Nintendo, which once was the game industry, gets less and less important.

Re: The Purse
preach brotha...if a debate starts I got your back
GCN is the biggest dissapointment of the three... it fell far short of my expectations. While Ps2 and Xbox (especialy Xbox) did far greater than my expectations.

Re: Re: The Purse
The Wind Waker sucks major ass. It's actually one of my worst buys for the Cube. Totally no atmosphere, the story isn't told well enough, the L-triggering sucks, the sea is soooo boring and the puzzles are SO unlogical. "Take a picture of the most frightened person on the island." Bull****, I've tried almost everybody. (please don't spoil it... I'll it find out within a few years)
Hm Nintendo relies on its great characters, but then they have to make good games with them. So far, Metroid is the only game that lives up to the expectations. But it's just such a different style... it didn't sell.

I'm enjoying my GC ten times more than my PS2 and I won't buy an X-Box because there isn't anything that interests me at all. Games in general are becomming a lot less fun than they used to be, and it's not because I'm changing. I still love tons of NES and SNES games, N64 too. But there's only a handful of very entertaining games on all three nex gen systems. Gamecube happens to have most of them and GC gets 80-90% of playtime between my PS2 and GC.

Re: The Purse
Dissapointing, yes, but not the most dissapointing..... Well, actually it would be the most dissapointing, for i didnt expect much from Xbox, so it being 3rd still in my list is no surprise. But, aside from Wind Waker, and Metroid, I really havnt played much of Cube at all.
My biggest surprise would be how much i ended up loving PS2, I didn't like it when it first came out, but the amount of great games it has it has become my favorite console by far.
Also, this is the console generation that PC has finally become #1 on my list over Console games. And I don't see that changing anymore.
I'll prolly end up getting PS3, and not bother with any other Console.
As far as GameCube goes, Yes, dissapointment would be a great word to describe how i feel. But then again, i really only bought it for Zelda anyway.

I gotta agree there...
1) I expected Ps2 to be crap... on paper it was crap, and it had every reason to fail. From price, to power, to development diffuculty. IMO, it still walked out with the best game library
2) I can't say Xbox is worse than I expected because um, I expected Atari Jaguar part II. Xbox far passesd my expectations
3) Cube came into this generation with the most potential IMO, and walked out with nothing. They have no excuse for thier preformance right now.
Also, as far as Cube and Xbox goes head up... take Ps2 out as a factor and Xbox is better by far. Online Play, Sega Sports 2k4, and MGS2 would kinda be exclusive if it wasn't for Ps2. Cube is good but lacks variety. Cube definently has more killer apps (IMO) but I wouldn't buy it as a stand-alone system because I love my Racing, Sports, and fighting games.

Re: Re: Re: The Purse
True, But i tend to hate most Fighting games, (but am having fun with SC2), only racing game i like is the GT series. and for sports i HIGHLY prefer EA Sports on PC.
The Exclusive games are the only reason i play Console games now. which are the Zelda games, Gran Turismo's and ones like that...
Which is kinda why i didnt go for Xbox, the 'exclusives' that i liked, ended up having or are getting better versions on PC. Like, Halo; Great game, but i'd be getting it for Multiplayer, and the PC multiplayer online might very well rival Halo 2's multiplayer.
I was interested in Knights of the old Republic, from what i hear its the same game on PC, but it will be slightly more polished. (and as all games. there will be downloads for it)
Nothing to do with xbox really tho. for if They made a PC version of Zelda, i'd throw my GC out the window.
But yea. Next nintendo console will have to really impress me, and kick some ass the way PS2 is doing for me to eventually buy one. I dont plan on buying it anytime in its early release whenever that may be.

I agree (With the Pc part mostly).
My Pc has been played more than my consoles.
I also agree the GC was the most disappointing, because my expecations of the Xbox were basically low.
Doesn't mean I like Xbox better than Gc. I haven't touched my Xbox.
So to answer the question I'm most disappointed with the GC, but the Xbox is my least favourite console this gen.
And I disagree with The Game. I expected XBox to be crap, Ps2 to sell (it had so many 3rd party games behind it) and the GC was the wild card.
I didn't expect Ps2 to fail at all, but Ps2 overall is my fave console for it's variety, Gc for it's killer apps (and new games like Eternal Darkness/Metroid) and Xbox for ...........Halo

Re: Re: Re: The Purse
I expected Ps2 to fail because of all the Nintendo fanboy propaganda. Plus the fact that no system in history that was hard to develop for won in thier generation. Ps2's launch was widely criticized too, both japanese and US.
As for Null... I think PC's better version doesn't make up for the 2 year head start of the Xbox version. It's almost like Sonic DX vs Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast.
But some of the points you were argueing were after this:
"Also, as far as Cube and Xbox goes head up... take Ps2 out as a factor and Xbox is better by far. Online Play, Sega Sports 2k4, and MGS2 would kinda be exclusive if it wasn't for Ps2. Cube is good but lacks variety. Cube definently has more killer apps (IMO) but I wouldn't buy it as a stand-alone system because I love my Racing, Sports, and fighting games."
When I say head up, I mean factor Ps2 and PC out, if you had to get ONE of the two and just stick with ONE, which one do feel is the better buy?
I think that Cube has more killer apps... but it's stil not good enough all around to match Xbox, for my tastes at least. Plus right now I wold be dying to play an online game... somthing Cube doesn't offer.
Cube is a better support system for Ps2, I mean, just an Xbox and Ps2 doesn't mix very well. But stand alone? Cube is garbage, that's why I think it's sales stink so bad.

Re: Re: Re: Re: The Purse
yea, if Xbox and Cube were the only 2 game consoles in existance, i'd still go with cube. As i said, the exclusives mean more to me then the other games. Even tho Nintendo is screwing up in many area's (not going online being a major one) thier exclusives are still good.
Xbox is still around. that in itself is more then i expected. (altho i cant say i personally see why). And cube i expected not to beat Sony out, but to close the gap a bit.... And it looks like they instead made the gap further apart.
As for the PC having the better version not making up for it being late. Thats true, but as i said. While Halo is very easily the best Console FPS, Its not going to be anywhere near the best PC FPS, PC Users are in no rush or worry to get it. I'ts just like one drop of water in the sea of FPS's

I actually don't care how Gamecube does anymore. PS2 is more than enough for another few years, and my XBox is just a bonus.
