-My long ass post/rant about Camp Hyrule 2003-
Introduction
Yup, it was pretty stupid this year (well every year is pretty stupid, but this one topped the iceberg in stupidity.) The forums were a nice little touch though.
Camp Hyrule must be the idiot magnet of the Internet
Like some of the people already said above, Camp Hyrule manages to attract all types of pre-pubescent morons and idiots (and don't forget AOL users) from across the world. The first few days were filled with newbies (I don't refer to people who are new to camp, just the idiots) asking the same damn questions over again. By the final day, there were still people asking how the most basic things worked (which they could have easily figured out if they read ANYTHING in the e-mails that were sent out.) Another annoying trend was that I noticed a huge surge in people typing in ALL CAPS trying to win the Gannon award from Thursday until Friday.
The Conspiracy
I like it how Nintendo desperately tried to cover it's ass this year with all the art and stuff that they posted in the Trading Post place. Last year, they said they would pick
the best one out of each cabin and post it. Well, if you've ever seen some of the crappy stuff they post (some things look like they were drawn by an eight-year old with no motor skills) you would be suspicious as whether or not they were really picking the best one or just randomly selecting one and posting that.
This year, it was changed to "We'll pick a handful and post them". They probably changed it since (with the new forums) people would be posting their artwork and pestering the people at Nintendo how they're professionally photoshopped picture got beat out by little Timmy who crappily drew a luigi hat in Paint on a counseler and got his artwork posted.
Why Sync Voting is the Devil!
Another thing I really hated this year was Cabin 1's syncronized voting system. If you hadn't noticed, Cabin 1 sweeped all the awards this year (with the exception of one or two.) Now I was in Cabin 1 and all but that was really really cheap. There were FAR better people who deserved some of the awards than some of the complete morons in my cabin (I saw some of the artwork the guy who won the "Best Artist" award drew and I could name at least six other members of my cabin whose artwork was ten times better.)
The other thing that irked me was that the nominations for the sync vote consisted of a so-called "leaders" (read: the people with no life) casting votes for their "friends" and all the newbies mindlessly following them and voting for the same person. (sorta like the shepherd leading the sheep to a slaughter.) The end result was that half of the people who won the awards weren't even that qualified to recieve them.
