My Review of Switch 2 after 2 Months of use
I saw some recent comments about Switch 2 in another thread so thought I'd share my opinions and experiences after recieving the console day one.
I was fortunate enough to get an invite code to pre-order my Switch 2.
I live in the UK and the bundle with Mario Kart cost me £430 which is just under $450 US
I didn't get the Pro-Controller 2 since the Switch 1 Pro-Controllers work on the console, with only one down side. They cant wake or turn the console on. This is actually way more of an inconvenience for me than it may be for others since I play docked 99% of the time and I'm disabled.
The console is bigger. In handheld it's slightly wider and I can notice a subtle difference in the position of my wrists to elbows but it's not uncomfortable.
The screen is bigger, wider and taller and in my experience, pretty crisp. I haven't had any screen taring or particularly noticable slower frame rate, other than with Pokemon Legends Arceus but I'm certain thats more the game than it is the console.
I can't tell you how this compares to a lite or an OLED screen but I definitely prefer it to the Switch 1 screen.
The stand feels flimsy and cheap and I don't have much faith in it. It is better than Switch 1 though.
The feel of the plastic is smooth and nice and for me I haven't had sweaty palms or fingers with it. No thumb slipping of the stick yet.
The way the cartridges click in and out feels more solid and the plug/cap I think is a better design. Theres only a small tab to open it again once its locked in, so not always the easiest. But maybe that's just technique on my part.
The back cover shell for the dock completley detaches and feels flimsy and cheap. I packed it away in the box instead of having to keep taking it on and off when I want to adjust the cables.
The joy-cons are 100 times better. I was not a fan of the Switch 1 joy-cons at all, they were slightly too small for my hands in length and width and the sticks were never quite in the optimum position for me. Nither were the triggers.
The slide in rail system and detatch button were never great imo either.
The Switch 2 Joy-Con? I like these things. There are a perfect length and width to feel comfortable in my hand for extended play sessions. Sticks are in a more optimum position and the triggers are great. The bump part your finger rests on is slightly larger which for me feels more secure.
The release button is great and the best part honestly is the way the joy-cons attatch to the console with a nice magnetic pull and click. You line them up close enough and it clips together for you.
Set up was easy for me. You just log in to your account. Make sure you tell it to transfer over your save files. Then it downloads all your stuff and basically transfers over all your games etc. This can take a while for it to dl everything.
Once this process is complete, your Switch 1 is obsolete.
It really feeels like a Swicth Pro and I mean that in a good way.
It doesn't feeel like a NEW Nintendo console, but maybe thats just because I'm old and I'm used to the different generations of Nintendo consoles being completly different beasts.
I hope this helps some of you thinking about buying or not or wondering about the more subtle details and day to day user experience.
If you also have a Switch 2 I'd be interested to hear your views or how your experiences / opinions of the various features relate or differ to mine.
