28 weeks later was much better than 28 days later
title says it all...
i've read a review or two saying that it's just a sequel, but it's not
28 Weeks Later is so much more of an apocalyptic film. It is dirty, it is gritty, and the entire movie reeks of doom. Impending zombie doom. While the first movie was certainly watchable, it just doesn't share the darkness the sequel has.
There were one or two cheap "horror" moments, but that's inevitable and even forgivable nowadays. I'd go as far as to say that 28 Weeks Later was the scariest movie I have watched since The Descent.
Highly recommended.
To quote the fella sitting next to me, "Wow, that really made up for Spider-Man 3, what a crappy film that was."

I haven't seen 28 Weeks yet, but yes, I agree with your Descent comment. I have talked to several people who say horror flicks never scare them, but who admit that the Descent actually did -- me included.

You're kidding, right?
me, Fox, and Dylflon (and Dylflons brother) all watched that, and none of us were remotely...scared. Infact, we laughed a lot more than we have in some comedy movies. That movie was terrible.
Anyways, I still havent even seen 28 days later - I heard it was terrible, but I've heard good things about 28 weeks later.

Re: 28 weeks later was much better than 28 days later
The Descent had me going, I hadn't been on the edge of my seat for that long since I think I saw Alien (not Aliens). I thought that the 2/3s of The Descent, before the monsters came, were the best 2/3s of it. The camera work was wonderfully claustrophobic and dark. The final part of the movie was still pretty good as far as I'm concerned, but the original ending was agreeably better than the American ending...and it wasn't quite up to par with the likes of Alien. Still, maybe i'm just a huge pusse but I really enjoyed The Descent and got some good chills.

I think for what the movie is (a horror movie), it was good. The first half of the movie was trying to get people with the phobias (dark places, cramped places, etc). The second half was just all about survival. I certainly didn't feel like I wasted money when I saw the film.

It is one of the few horror movies that got a large consensus of good reviews. My guess is that since you watched it with three other guys who were all you admit cracking jokes (or at least laughing) throughout the movie, whether warranted or not, didn't help the movie's case. I have watched several movies with people who wouldn't shut up, which ruins the movie for me. I think even the Godfather could be ruined that way.
Plus my spider-sense was tingling for some of those actresses.... if you know what I mean....
Oh, and 28 Weeks... I want to see it.

But I mean some parts of it were just so laughable, and joke-warranted.
*possible spoilers, I guess...although I dont suggest seeing it in the first place*
When her family got taken out by poles twice - albiet one in a dream - we sort of concluded there should be more poles in the movie. Guess what. NO ****ING POLES. Poles are her natural enemy, and they just drop them like that.
When the really bad rip-off orc-chud was on top of one of the girls, and she was being quiet, it completely looked like he was raping her and she was unconcious. He even did a little head twirl towards the camera, as if you didn't think so.
That one girl (I forget who the actress was; the one who purposely killed the one girl), was a terrible actress, and seemed like she was thrown in the movie to "act incredibly hardcore, while ruining every aspect of the movie while she does so".
How can you take any race of people seriously when their warcry is "wiki wiki wiki wiki" and makes them seem like an underground-dwelling race of wiggers?
I'm just not all about an extreme movie about a handful of extreme girls who want to go extreme spelunking. Maybe if I was put into a spelunking scenario every day of my life, i'd think "Hey, ****...this movie really gets to me. I go through this all the time. I'm worried about going into uncharted caves now." But, I'm not an extreme spelunker looking for some extreme spelunking. And I think this movie just extremely sucked.
But I digress.

Re: 28 weeks later was much better than 28 days later
I just watched The Descent a couple of nights ago and I wasn't outright scared at many points, but in terms of being a recent horror movie, it was surprisingly good. I think the deaths were very well done and the setting was ripe for freaky things to happen. Good horror movie.

Re: 28 weeks later was much better than 28 days later
I actually didn't find this movie to be better than its predecessor.
In 28 Weeks, there wasn't as much focus on story, and I couldn't find any way to care about the characters really.
The opening scene was marvelous though.

Re: 28 weeks later was much better than 28 days later
Just saw it, it was good. I can't say it's better than 28 Days Later, but I'd say it's a worthy sequel.
Nice ending btw.
