The state of the next generation PlayStation software shown at next week's E3 show should reveal if a 2005 release is a possibility for the new system, or if Yuhara's comments were designed to take some steam out of Microsoft's Xbox 360 unveiling later today.

if Sony confirms a 2005 release at E3, it will really put a hurting on Microsoft. Not only did the MTV showing blow balls, but Microsoft is depending on the early release to give them a jump start on the industry.

This is going to turn out to be one heated battle.

It'll put a hurting on Sony too. And they did this right before the MTV show, to take away some of Microsoft's steam.

I think Sony should wait until 2006, because some people are still recovering from the PSP...

2006 should be fine for Sony/Nintendo because then MS Fanboys cant go around prancing 'We've got the best graphics/hardware' and actually bring up good points about wanting to own an Xbox (360)

If it is 2005, it'll be late 2005 and for Japan only. It really makes no sense for them to release a new console this holiday season though, especially in Japan. They have the PSP to cater to, along with some major PS2 holiday titles like FFXII, Kingdom Hearts 2, etc. releasing in Japan and North America between September and January.

We don't need a new console until 2007. Gamers need to take their Ritalin and just enjoy the current consoles. There's no rule that says you have to have something better every 3-4 years. Video game amateurs are so annoying.
