The biggest war there is: Expectations vs. Results
In this system war what were your expectations for each system? Did they live up to the expectations?
System by system
Xbox Hardware: I expected a home PC with decent vissuals. I expected the controller to be horrid, and I expected a system that wouldn't be a classic console. I also expected it to cost way too much, and I expected it to be inferrior to Gamecube in power and texture crating ability.
Xbox Software: I expected the games to be so bad that it is laughable. I expected very little 1st party support, and crap third party support. I also thought none of the exclusive games would be any good.
Xbox sales: I expected somewhere around Atari Jaguar Sales.
Did it live up to the Hype? Stupid Question... I changed my whole biased feelings about the system.
Ps2 hardware: I expected it to have graphics similar to dreamcast, just with slower load times. I expected the graphics not even to compare to GCN's or Xbox's.
Ps2 Software: I expected Ps2 to have a lot of great games the first year, but I expected it to fall of once Developers started working with easier development kits.
Ps2 Sales: Due to the shortages, I expected Sony not to have 15 million in the first year. I also expected Dreamcast to be in the lead at the time Gamecube was released.
Did it live up to the Hype? I had many misconseptions... I never expected Ps2 to be as good as it is.
Gamecube Hardware: I expected it to be like Playstation mixed with N64... Psx for the simplicity and effectiveness... and N64 for it's visual power advantage.
Gamecube Games: I expected them to be a mix of N64's first party games, and bascally all of Psx's 3rd party games. I expected the bigger disk space to make Nintendo games a lot longer and better and I expected easy development to steal developers hearts. I also expected much fewer delays because of the development ease.
Gamecube sales: I expected the Price advantage to be Gamecube's key to winning the war. I expected Mario, Perfect Dark, or Zelda to be released early in GCN's life span, and for it to erupt Gamecube into the obviou fastest selling system of all time.
Did it live up to the Hype? I think you can answer this yourself.
