WCW to Return in 2006?!
Quote:
Although this may seem a little far fetched, we are now hearing from several sources close to the situation that Ted Turner is seriously considering a return to the wrestling business.
When AOL merged with Time Warner, Ted Turner signed several documents as he was losing more and more power within the company. One of the documents signed was that he could not compete against AOL Time Warner in the wrestling business. We have been told that agreement ends in March of 2005.
In March of 2001, Brad Siegel and Jamie Kellner effectively killed WCW by canceling its programming off of TBS and TNT. The company was sold to WWE, which then gutted it.
We have been told there is a five year no-compete for wrestling programming between AOL Time Warner and WWE, which would expire in March of 2006.
Obviously with any wrestling promotion, you need a TV deal to really make it work. TNT has changed its image to the drama network so they are pretty much a no go. TBS though is wide open though and Kellner is no longer in charge. He was the main man behind getting rid of wrestling on the network.
The word making the rounds is that Turner may already be laying down the foundation for a huge promotion with a TV deal. One source has even told us he has sent out feelers to both Steve Austin and Goldberg about being involved in the company if all goes as planned.

I stumbled across this news and I think it would be cool if WCW came back. I still like the WWE, but it needs some competition again.

Re: WCW to Return in 2006?!
And how exactly would this work? First and foremost, you need wrestlers. Everyone who is anyone is under a WWE contract and I'd have hard time imagining this 'WCW' with TNA guys, indie guys, and Japanese guys or Vince McMahon giving an inch to competition that doesn't even exist.
Secondly, with the way things are going, I barely care what happens from week to week, I'll be surprised if I'll even be conscious of what's going on in the wrestling world in 2 years. Call me when there are real champions, instead of Benoit and Guerrero.
I place this rumour on the same level as one of those dead Warrior ones.

Re: WCW to Return in 2006?!
In my wrstling stages, i like WCW and ECW more that WWF (WWE) because tehy were more about wrestling, instead of drama. They seemed more raw (no pun) and i liked that, they wernt all flash and pizzaz, they worked for their money.
And they would get wrestlers the same way they got them before...Pay them more, or take the wrestlers banned by the WWE...ie. Road Dogg, Jeff Hardy, Faarooq. Their would probably be a number of entry level WWE "superstars" that would jump ship to become the main attraction on WCW.
I am going to pray for this to happen. Because when wrestling was good (in my opinion) was when they were competing mercilessly. The most memorable thing i have about that is when DX crashed the one of the WCW events unscheduled...classic.
Plus it would be entertaining to see what would happen with former WCW superstars ( Ric Flair, Sting, Hogan etc.) and how they would handle things from a competitive standpoint...

A long time ago, and basically the got a small tank-ish vehicle and road up to the gates before most of the people were in, and tried to get in to the show. Then they rallied some people to start "DX" and "WCW sucks" chant while going into the WCW show. That would be cool if someone posted a link to the video...

That news piece is word for word plaigarized from www.pwinsider.com. Now I understand what Scherer is screaming about all the time.
Anyway, WCW will never come back because WWE owns the rights to the name. Another company may be formed, but WCW is dead.
