Default Fable 2 Wish List

I won't bother you all with some half-assed review of Fable, since the entire world seems to have done that job pretty well already. What I want to talk about is what you want from the inevitable sequel to this monster hit of a game. Since my recommendations are going to involve ponts that I feel that could have been improved, I will say this about Fable:

Fable is a great game, as it succeeds in the many things that it attempted to bring into one game... BUT... it does not EXCEL in any of the areas that it has success in.

With that said, here are my ideas for Fable 2

A Larger, Free Roaming World - The biggest area that hurts Fable is that at no point did I feel immersed in the game. I always felt like I was simply running from area to area and quest point to quest point. The fenced in area inhibited me from feeling the sense of exploration, freedom and adventure that Morrowind was able to achieve so well. In fact, most RPGs give you sense of great travel and experience from the beginning of the game to the end, but Fable never really achieves this. The designers were trying to achieve accessiblility, but in doing to so they stripped their role playing game from one of the most important aspects that one can have: The loss of self into another world.

A More Diverse World - The whole world of Fable seemed very cookie cutter to me. Every town look a lot alike and all of its citizens seemed very similar. I'm not sating that the NPCs were clones of one another, but they all looked alike. Here are a couple ideas for a more diverse world:

1) More races. More races give you a better feeling of both exploration and adventure. Plus it also gives you the opportunity to explore the idea of personality traits even more and give you the impression that you are meeting different kinds of people whose lives don't just revolve around you (another complaint I had).

2) More Diverse Archetecture. This involves having a sense of travel and adventure also. In Morrowind (I'm guessing you can see I'm using that game as my measuring stick) most of the towns had a very distinct look to them, which gave you the feeling to traversing a entire world, and not just a small island nation.

3) More Weapons. Fable really needs more weapons... a LOT more. There are honestly only a handful of weapon types to choose from, which had a few (and seemingly meaningless) upgrades and that really bothered me. I'm not saying that Fable needed to go as far as Diablo in the weapons selection, but a little more diversity would have been appreciated, if only in appearance. This goes for the spell selection also.

A Better Story - To put it nicely, the story sucked. When thinking of the some of the great villians in RPGs and even other adverture or action games, The Jack of Blades doesn't even register. They need to do better, or offer a more immersive environent to create your own story in. Bottom line.

Now I know in writing this I'm sounding really critical of Fable, but I love the game and still play it daily even after having beaten it. Each time you play, it seems like the game is truly different and reacts to almost everything that you do, and that is a rare achievement in the world of gaming. The graphics, design and animations are nothing less than spectacular (if a little cartoonish). But more than anything, its a lot of fun.

Still, it can be improved, and the fact that I and many others can love this game but still see so many areas that it can be expandied and improved, only proves that Fable has hit a fresh nerve. Fable is a game that has brought to the table, developed and produced a concept that developers have been too afraid or inept to attempt: The Complete Game. Where Lionhead and Big Blue Box go from here, we can only wait and see.

1. No Loose Ends
Fable left a lot of things unfinished. For 4 years they were working on the game and the dragon didnt make it, there is no real point to the Lady Gray quest and her sister, the Old Kingdom isnt explained, a whole Island is left Isolated, Hero's were removed, and the Hero's within the game appear only about 3 times at most individually. I want Fable 2 to have a beginning and an end for every aspect and story within the game.

2. Travel
Let me ride those ships and let me travel on horse back, carriage, or even Clif Racer. I grew very tired of running around even though it was beautiful.

3. Loading
I was very surprised when I put Fable in and saw my first few load points. I had no idea it would have come to this. I want Fable 2 to be much smoother and have the least amount of loading points as possible. It took a big part of the immersion out for me.

I now think that BBB spent too much time on the graphics of Fable

The funny part for me was that even though Morrowind had much more lengthy loading loads (stetching MINUTES), I was still much more immersed. I think this was because the load points were more spread out and allowed for the gamer to have a "break". By having longer but less frequent loading times I could go to the bathroom, or get a drink or even smoke a cig to give my brain a little break from the game. These loading times seemed more welcome than the ones in Fable.

you've never played it....

Most of the time I dont mind it, but some times it can be annoying, I dont think the game is really about the story I think its about developing your character.

Ok here's one big complaint about Fable: it's only on XBox.

Perhaps they could try to combine elements of Fable and Morrowind and stuff? Cause that's what I loved about Morrowind, it was soooooooooooooo huge and diverse.... Plus the story was just perfect. You could read into every detail.

Digging takes up about 0.001% of the things that you have to do in the game...

Anyway, I agree with pretty much everything that has been said so far. Except for the story part, because in a game like fable, I don't really want to sit and pay attention to long and thorough cutscenes, I just wanna play. I thought the story served its purpose, and that's all I care about.

Ok, I read the majority of this and basically Morrowind KICKS @$$!
I Agree. Each time i log on and play Morrowind I just get into watching and all nervey while walking in dangerous areas. The game lets u get into it and has many many quests to work on and no set time to do them and no set boundaries. You can kick Dagoth Urs butt real fast do quests aftwerwards or vice versa.
With all that said. Fable was good in it's own right. Just about one of the best combat systems I've ever seen. Easy to move from Spells to Axe to Bow. I like the way it is built Cartoonish, because it looks like the old pop up books, which makes it an actual Fable. And How many times in a fable do you see a cat running on it's hind legs or a lizard with armor on. None. The races in the game are based on what was in storybook's. I agree that they could make them all a little more different and change the towns some. Yes more weps plz God. Also, the Skorm's bow and other weps like that, where it is a certain time of day and u have to do a certain thing, BYE BYE. I did that Skorm bow for hours tryin to get it right. Nothing. More diversity in heros and friends. I killed bukoos of bandits and monsters and had the girl and her big brother the Guild leader and the other guy(havent played in a bit) and that is it. You need more people that u can interact with and get to help u fight or for u to spar with.

The way they have the XP set up is nice. You actually have to battle things to gain in skills, instead of setting back and having cheats on and letting guards whack u or holding down a few buttons or just typing in the cheat.

Make sure it is completely cheat free as well, like DOA 5. Keep everything fair.

I heard so much about this game from my brother before it hit(like a year) and I thought it would be the best game ever. Take UO's style of non-loading screens and Morrowind's free roaming and different views and a great combat system and put some kids and make it the way u were going to.

If Microsoft doesn't like it, then tell Bill Gates he can wipe his ass with something other than $$ and give it to them to get it right. Not like he gonna go broke. And if u make it right it will sell and sell well.

Fable has so much potential it's nuts. I'm not big into RPGs, but Fable brought a sort of Zelda/Diablo-esque element to the genre that made the game fun. And, even though it fell short of what everyone was expecting, and I really do mean everyone, I think it will provide a useful example for the future of gaming in the long run.

But, honestly, I'll probably be getting WoW before I get Fable 2. Once I update the hunk of crap that I call "computer."

Fable was an excellent game when I played it. But I sincerely think it doesn't fit in the RPG-ish genre. More like Role Play Simulation.

I'm more of a fan of playing the role of multiple characters and building through multiple stories and backgrounds. Basically, I'm a fan of multiple main characters like in FF franchise and Suikoden franchise.
