Default Oi!! Problem, help would be greatly appreciated

I just upgraded my computer from a PIII 866 with built in videocard and an extremely crappy set up to an AMD 2500+ with a radeon 9600XT and an asus motherboard and 512 RAM and a new case. So i took the stuff that i need from my old case and started putting it in my new one, i've got everything wired up properly, the problem is that when i start up the computer, the bootup will go normally, but when it's supposed to go to the windows loading screen, the screen goes blank....nothing....my monitor gives its "no signal detected" message and nothing happens. I connected my hard drive to my dads computer and the hard drive refused to work at all, so i reformatted it and installed windows a-new on it. When i go back to my computer to retry it, the exact same thing happens. Is there some compatibility issue between AMD processors and ATI videocards? Do i need to do something for the AGP slot? What the hell is going on??????

All help is greatly appreciated, and will be returned with +rep

what windows version?

Let me clarify. If its windows XP, it has to be installed on the computer you want to use. IE, you cant install it on one computer then swap it to another.
If windows XP detects a change in motherboard, it will NOT run, you can call up and get some code or something by telilng em you just switched motherboards, but considering you already formated, you just need to format it on the computer you want to use then install XP.

So, put the HD back in your computer, put in the XP CD, then reformat and install XP.

if you had multiple hard drives, or seperate partitions.

only the main/windows drive/partition needs to be reformated and installed on.

like for example, i have 2 hard drives. then split into a couple 40gig partitions, and a couple 80 gig partitions.
everything i want to keep i install on a seperate partition, everything thats REALLY importartant i install on one of the partitions on the 2nd drive.
If something goes wrong with windows and i have to reformat, i loose only windows because all my stuff is saved on one of the other partitions or drives. so that stuff will stay.

If your still having the No Signal Detected problem, go into the bios and look for something that says either "Init Display First" or "First Display option" (something along those lines) and make sure its on AGP. Sometimes the bios default is set to PCI and the motherboard could be confused and not picking up on the 9600xt being in AGP.

I tried both your advices, i reformatted my hd plugged it in empty into the new computer...as soon as it gets past the MB booting screen....it just goes blank...and i get the same message. And the Primary Visual control adaptor is set on AGP...THIS SUCKS!
