PS2's price drop in Japan
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/354/354339p1.html
February 22, 2002 - According to a report by the Mainichi Shimbun, SCE is considering a further cut to the price of the PlayStation 2 console in Japan. If taken, the move would be an attempt to undercut the recently-released Xbox even further, and possibly match the price of the Gamecube.
Currently, PlayStation 2 is priced at 29,800 yen in Japan (around $230), while the GameCube is down at 25,000 yen (about $200) and the Xbox is launching at a hefty 34,800 yen ($270 or so). A cut in the price of PS2 would probably place it at or around the Gamecube's price point -- SCE claims to be considering a price which "even children could reach
If such a price cut does come to pass in Japan, we will be sure to bring the news to you as soon as possible
How will the X-Box and GCN fight the PS2!! I'm starting to be a bit scared, becuase who is going to buy a GCN when it's the same price as a PS2.

I hope the same happens in America. The second the price of the PS2 drops, I'm going to buy it. I just want to be sure that I don't make the same mistake as when I bought my now over-priced Dreamcast. That's one of the biggest reasons why I got a Gamecube first, because I knew that the PS2 would drop sooner than the GC.

This would be like the second or third Japanese price drop... and there was even a price drop in europe I think...
but no sign of a US price drop... arrghhh
I mean it doesn't really matter to me cuz I already have one but I just don't get why Japan and Europe get price drops and the US stays with the ol' 300 dollar price...

Yeah it cost 250 dollars here in Europe now, but it launched at 400 dollars.

Meh. I allready have a PS2... But I wonder how much money I could sell it for... If there is a price drop in North America, and I can sell my PS2 to my stupid neighbour for over the dropped price, then I can pick myself up a brand new PS2.
THis is if there is a price drop in North America... However I doubt that there will be anytime soon.
