Default MechAssault... the Xbox Live Game to Own?

Well, pretty much everyone around the Xbox Live community thought that Unreal Championship would defiantly be the Xbox Live game to own. Some reviews for UC have been coming in, and yes they have been good, but another game has seemed to caught the eye of several websites. MechAssault is getting great reviews around the web. Here are some notable ones:

IGN's Review of MechAssault:
Quote:
Presentation
A ton of mechs, a good single-player mode and a nice interface. It would have been nice to see more options for Live and even some customization, but I guess you can never have it all. 7.0

Graphics
Though there are some moments of slowdown, this is one pretty game. Great mech animations, amazing particle effects, and I never tire of blowing up buildings. 9.0

Sound
Those with 5.1 will go deaf cranking up the volume on this beast. Fantastic sound effects and a solid score, but no customizable soundtracks. And please, stop with the voice masking! 9.0

Gameplay
Straight-up action. At times it almost seems too simple, but there is certainly strategy here. It's amazing how fresh the game feels no matter how often you play it. 8.0

Lasting Appeal
Plenty of mechs to enjoy, Xbox Live, and future downloadable content. More multiplayer modes would help, but there's no denying everyone will be playing this game online for the next year. 10.0

OVERALL SCORE (not an average) 9.2

Gamespot's Review of MechAssault:
Quote:
MechAssault isn't an overly complicated game, and this makes it a perfect choice for the Xbox Live launch. Once you get used to the game's pacing, it's easy to get good at controlling your mech, which is, of course, invaluable when you're playing online against other experienced players. The well-done campaign mode, the terrific presentation, and the variety of online modes all combine to make a truly superb final product. If you're going to buy one game with your Xbox Live starter kit, MechAssault is the one to get.

Gameplay: 9/10
Graphics: 9/10
Soud: 9/10
Value: 9/10
Tilt: 9/10

Overall: 9.0 superb

As you can see the reviews are outstanding. Anyone here considering getting MechAssault?

I'm only getting Xbox Live because of MechAssault. With all those fun years with BattleTech and MechWarrior under my sleeve, I'm surely going to enjoy this game until Halo 2 comes out. Indeed.

And it looks like everyone else likes it too!

I'm getting it and I'm already signed up with a league/clan over at another forum. Looks like I'm going to have to load up on the Jolt Cola this weekend...

After playing a game, it left me unimpressed. The online side of it sucks, to say the least. Game lobby only before the game, afterwards you get thrown back to the main online menu, and need to create the game again. No way of telling who's talking. Did not see a friend scoreboard. Also, went to the friends list and it's in alphabetical order, both online and off mixed in the same list. So I had to scroll to find someone online, and then it didn't say what game they were playing or anything like that, just had the option to remove friend.

You would think MS would do a better job with their own games. Maybe MotoGP spoiled me, but I was not impressed at all with the online play in this game.

Xbox Live game to own? Hardly. I can't see myself playing this game online much, only with a group of friends. The online experience left a lot to be desired, too bad my Ghost Recon hasn't arrived yet.

Come on gekko... you only like Xbox games that are made by Sega.

No, cause me loved MotoGP to death. Also love Ghost Recon (for PC). Can't wait to get it for Xbox, but EBgames didn't ship it yet

Only foreseen problem with GR is having to press a button to talk (makes it like a radio). Aside from that, can't wait!

But MechAssault is... not good. At least not online.

I'll most likely be getting Ghost Recon and NHL2K3

Well, the only fact of MechAssault that turns me off is they totally ripped out the simulation portion. It's not a true Battletech game anymore; they took a damn licence and made a leighway to Halo 2.

I believe UC got a 9.2 from IGN... I don't think Gamespot has reviewed it yet. In a few days I'll create a topic like this for Unreal Championship.

I love mechassault. Especially playing with a bunch of elementals against a Ragnarok or YMIR. Gekko, I find youre hyper criticism of anything XBL or Microsoft to be highly suspect.

Thought this would be the fitting place to put this. Can any of you relate?

Of course. The voice masks suck. I give people in my rooms one chance to turn them off. Then I use the old technique of "mute and boot."

I hate the voice mask that sounds like a god damn kid. I swear, this one kid who was using that voice mask must have really been 8 or 9. He was so god damn annoying we had to boot him from our lobby
