Unhappy TimeSplitters 2 : No More Online

Well, in a shocking move, Eidos has announced that TimeSplitters 2 for the PS2 will not have the much anticipated online mode.

Quote:
Eidos has issued a statement revealing that the PlayStation 2 version of TimeSplitters 2, the only version of the game that had previously been confirmed to support online play, will no longer support that particular feature. "We had always hoped to include an Internet online component in the PlayStation 2 version of TimeSplitters 2," said an Eidos representative. "However the infrastructure is not yet in place that will enable us to incorporate an online element and still make the game's proposed release date. We certainly don't want to delay the release of one of the year's most anticipated games and as a result disappoint the many fans who are eagerly awaiting the game."

Despite TimeSplitter 2's lack of online multiplayer support the game is still slated to feature iLink and LAN multiplayer support. Players will be able to link up to six consoles via the PlayStation 2 iLink, which will support up to 16 players. PS2 owners who pick up the network adapter this month will be able to link up to eight consoles for a total of 16 players in a game.

As far as the GameCube and Xbox versions of the game are concerned, neither version of the game will feature online multiplayer modes. The GameCube version will support up to four players in split screen multiplayer. The Xbox version will support the system link accessory and allow up to eight consoles to be linked together.

All three versions of TimeSplitters 2 are currently slated to ship on September 24.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Looks like I will not be purchasing this game afterall, considering the main factor of me wanting this game was because of the online mode. Looks like Red Faction 2 for me.

Well, people could always try and do what people did with Halo using a LAN setup. Fool the system into thinking its using a LAN connection, but is actually playing over the 'net with other people

That takes effort and time. And doesn't it help that Xbox has a modem built into it?

The main thing that I am mad about is that Eidos delayed this game for 3 months to put in the online mode. And now they take it out! ARGHHHHH.

I don't know how, but I foresaw this. Oh well, I think Timesplitters 2 will still be a great game.

I played the demo and thought this game sucked. But at one point in my life I considered getting it for online play, why is beyond me. But then I played it, and was disapointed.

Still, why the hell wouldn't you delay the game? Does Eidos really think they'll make gamers happy by not delaying it? NO! Once they're finished it'll just be "I wish it had online play." Finish the ****ing game, don't give us half-assed unfinished crap.

As for Xbox over the net, you basically install a program on your computer, double click the game to join, and they it pops up like it's a game on your LAN. Pretty neat, doesn't always work to well though, and is not the best service. It's kinda like better than nothing, but not by much

And Xbox doesn't have a modem built into it, it has an ethernet adapter. And yes it helps, because it can be easily networked with your PC, thus allowing you to use the tunneling software. But this was really done by accident, MS doesn't exactly want you playing that way. Then they would lose money with Xbox Live. Kinda like how Sony would lose money if everyone used a USB modem and didn't buy a network adapter.

Well I don't think I'll be getting TS2 now...Online was the main reason I wanted it. Eidos should rot in hell.

I'm not buying it either. I'll just get SOCOM and hope that somebody makes a baseball game worth playing.
